Default Assigning Ringtones to Different Callers - 06-02-2006, 02:16 PM

I've tried to search for this, so if there is already a thread about this please link me to it.

I have a 7100g. I was wondering how to assign different ringtones to different callers. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks in advance.

You have to be using OS 4.1 and all you do is go to the address book select the person click on the wheel and select add custom tune.

Or Select New Exception from the Profiles Menu. There are some differences in what you can do using each method concerning the Use Profile Feature with some versions of OS 4.1.x.xxx. Search for Custom Ringtones for more help.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your replies. My phone does not have either of those options. I will keep searching through the forums for a solution though.

As Kontiki said in his post, "You have to be using OS 4.1 and all you do is go to the address book select the person click on the wheel and select add custom tune."

I would bet that if you went into Settings / Options / About you'd discover you weren't running v4.1

Not sure if this is your issue or not, but try this:

The ringtone is matched in the device by the name of the person in your address book. If you've enabled "content protection", and the device is locked, the device cannot match the name, and the feature will therefore not work.

Nope it was disabled. When I try to assign a tone to a caller in the address book it still plays the default ringer I have selected not the custom tone. If I look at profiles after I do that it makes a new exception automatically. But next to custom tone the checkbox has a red line through it.

Never seen that, don't know what to say. Have you tried another theme? Maybe another OS version.

Hope this helps.

Wish I could do this on my 7520. Seems like I am missing out on a lot of different things with the 7520. I wish they would come out with a program that made the ring louder.

I have a 7105t and am running the OS 4.1...This option is not available to me either. There is no option to 'add custom tune' anywhere in the address book as far as I can tell.

I am not 100% posative, but don't think that it is available on that model.

On a related question regarding assigning custom ringtones...

... In the manuals, there is reference to the fact that if a ringtone has already been assigned to an addressbook record, that the option to assign one won't be there.

Because of that, I haven't assigned any ringtones yet to any contact. Did I read too much into that reference, and that it actually is possible to re-assign ringtones to contacts that already have a ringtone assigned?

On my previous non-BB phones, I made extensive use of custom ringtones but haven't yet because I didn't want to be deleting contacts every time I decide to change ringtones for a certain contact.

Thanks in advance!
