And that is why there is chocolate and vanilla. . Truth is I might like Vodafone Today a lot more if anyone actually sent me SMS messages. All I get are emails, PINs, and BB Messenger. So it's just wasted space for me.

I think you have the ghost SMS bug. A battery-out reboot will hopefully solve it.
What I noted during my brief play with Vodafone Today is that if you go directly into a newly arrived SMS from the homescreen (i.e. highlight it and click; don't go via the inbox) and then after you have read it use the Escape key to return directly to the Homescreen, it seems to clear the display. No promises but that seemed to work.
Here's a funny bug in Dimension Today. If you highlight the Profiles line and click when your Profile is set to Normal, it brings up the Profiles menu. But if you do that when your Profile is at any other setting, it doesn't work. That's okay; I use the F hotkey. Hopefully jibi will keep an eye on future 8707 software updates because these bugs will most certainly get cleaned up.
Anyway Dimension Today has already replaced Zen as my favourite theme. It looks good with the blue jay and the grand old rag. And I like that big clock.

Hi Jibi,
I think I am getting old, is there a way to change the font on the Vodafone Today? I tried to change the setting > Screen/keyboard but had no effect.
Thank you

@ gecko215 - the home screen fonts cannot be changed - only fonts within applications (phone app, calendar, contacts, etc) and lists (options, etc)
@ awad, unfortunately, you can't - on both Today themes, the front convenience key should default to the Applications List

cooper thanks for the advice on the battery pull but unfortunately it looks as if that only works until the next time you get an SMS and it'll be a recurring issue

My front convenience key was set to browser the whole time I've been using Zen. When I downloaded the 2 today themes via OTA, the front key still opened the browser. I tried to change it but noticed that I was unable to do so. I went back to the Zen theme and set the front key to Applications and went back to the Vodafone Today theme. It wouldn't do anything.
Any ideas why mine doesn't default to bring up the Applications list.

Any ideas when a 260x240 version will surface for th 7100 series? (btw i do realise this is the 8700 section of th forum)
Also does this suffer from the same memory leak that effects zen?

@ awad and thatboiwes, a wipe of the handheld possibly would resolve the issue with the convenience key. not really sure, though. definitely a bug that its not an option.
@ HuwSy, the UMTS 7100 device has not been announced yet, so i have no clue. maybe these will be available with the 7130g devices, though. there are plans for the 7100 series version, but i wouldn't expect it anytime soon, especially if it doesn't show up with this month's release of the 7130g devices.
@ apple85, i find the issue occurs more when i delete an SMS/MMS while inside the message. one fool-proof way of making sure that its going to go away is to read it, go back to the home screen and make sure its gone from there then go back and delete it. pain in the arse, but a band-aid nevertheless (until its resolved by RIM/Voda).

I had no problem of changing the Front Conv. key (FCK) to anything I want and here is what I did. Activate Zen and choose/set your FCK and go back to activate your Vodafone Today. I have Vodafone today as my theme and my FCK is app list.

Why is there no Front Convenience Key option setting in Dimension - Today? It seems to read the value set in Dimension - Zen, but it's really annoying not being able to change it right in this theme.

Don't know why it decided to work this time and not the 1st time I tried it, but it did. It's a pain having to switch themes to set the front key and change my fonts and everything back but oh well. I guess I can live with it until it gets fixed.

I had my front configured for SMS Messages while using the Zen theme. After loading the today themes the front conv. key is still opening SMS messages.

Apparently, you can change the front key to whatever you want. It just takes a little bit of work. You have to go to the zen theme and set it to whatever you want. Then when you go to one of the today themes, the front key will still open whatever you had it set to.

you should be able to do a hybrid installation, using the 8707's 4.1.0.394/4.1.0.316 software with the rim8700g.sfi file (found in the GPRS folder of the installation directory) in place of the UMTS handheld stack (just copy the GPRS directory from one to the other).

Good advice. This loading of 8707 software on the 8700 strikes me as a solution that's looking for a problem.

Thank you again jibi for everything you do. Dimension Today worked great OTA on my 8700g running Telstra.
But my first impression isn't that good, I want to be able to tweak and customize. At least with Zen I can get a weather icon using the browser push they rolled out not long ago. I'll run it awhile longer in case it grows on me.

Ive downloaded both but for some reason, just get the icon display and not the today screen, despite having selected the 'today' screen from the themes list. Am I doing something wrong? The phone resets when I set it to the 'today' screen from the themes list - is this normal?

I definitely prefer Dimension Today. You get two emails displayed on the home screen. I also find the lack of a hotkey for emails in Vodafone Today to be an inexplicable and significant loss. Anyway these themes are fun but definitely works in progress.
|
Coop, how were you able to get 2 emails on the home screen in the Dimension today theme? I have tried to change what email is currently on my home screen (currently my yahoo) to my blackberry.net account, or possibly have both on there. I have seen others posts saying they have different choices on the home screen, if anyone can help me I would appreciate the help.
Still playing with the themes, can't comment on function but seems as good as free today screen minus the weather and stock feeds. Will they put those in as future upgrades to the today themes? Would be sweet!

Sounds like you are using T-Mobile's BIS 2.0 and while I only know how that works from what I've read here, I would assume that Dimension Today will only display emails from your main Messages inbox, not the extra inboxes that BIS 2.0 creates for individual accounts.
What I meant is that Dimension Today will show the two most recent emails that arrived on your homescreen whereas Vodafone Today will only show one. (The caveat to that is that if you go into look at the message, or go into your inbox, it clears the display. So you're only going to see two on your homescreen if you receive two before you clear the display.)
You can't customise these themes. Not this version anyone; maybe down the road.

Thanks Coop! I noticed that Vodaphone's today screen has a seperate listing for SMS and MMS messages compared to Dimension's 1. The upside is that Dimesion will show my unread messages on the banner and my blackberry.net account on the today screen, plus I can change the home screen picture which makes it even better.
The new themes seem to be a migration in the right direction.
Thanks JIBI for helping us "technophobes" customize our BB's and get the most out of them.

Just a quick note. When I go to this thread on my BB, I see both OTA downloads (BB Dimension-Today, and Vodafone Today), but on my computer with IE, I only see the Vodafone text and link. Better that way than the reverse I suppose!
Also, a useful link for this thread: ZEN, O2, Orange & Vodafone Themes (8700 ONLY) with instructions on installing these advanced themes.

OTA for Vodafone Today -
06-11-2006, 09:42 AM
OK, so I followed the excellent instructions by Jibi for the Vodafone theme, downloaded OTA and it runs fine even on my 4.10.284 T-Mobile 8700g. I am a Mac computer user so OTA upgrades are pretty much my only option, hense changine my OS is also not an option (unless someone can tell me what I am not understanding).
Anyway, I would like to use the Vodafone Today theme but the OTA url for this always gives me a 404 error - page not found. Same for the Dimension Today url. Is this because of the OS on my BB or something else. Could anyone offer another url from which I could try a OTA install?
Thanks in advance for any help.
If at first you don't succeed, then you obviously aren't Chuck Norris
