Red face newbie time! Transferring images + MP3 - 07-19-2006, 05:46 AM

OK, I'm sure i'm going to get shot down in newbie flames here ... but

a) On my 8700, how do I transfer images from my PC to my BB ? Or am I looking at 3rd party apps ?

b) Same for MP3 - and does it play them as ringtones? (this is more curiosity than need)

Thank you for not losing your patience with me,

S.S.

You can attach images to an email and send it to your Blackberry. Open the email, then Open Attachment and save the image. It will then be available in the Pictures app where you can set it as your wallpaper.

You can also save images from most web pages. With the image highlighted, click and save image. Again, it's available in the Pictures app.

The only other thing you can do with pictures other than set them as your wallpaper is send them to others using Blackberry Messenger.

The only way to get MP3's onto the device is to have a link to them on a Web page, and then click the link in the Browser. A Player app will play the MP3. There are three controls on the player. A triangle pointing right >, a box, and a box with lines. Highlight a control by scrolling, and click the wheel to use it. The box with lines will bring up a menu where you can save the MP3 and then use it as a ring tone or alert sound.

Without a third party app, that's all there is. Pictures and MP3's can't even be backed up using Desktop Manager, so it's best to bookmark pages you get them from, or save the emails with pics after pulling down the attachments. They can then be backed up and restored (saved messages and attachment data only).

A great place to look would be in the dedicated Ringtones, Themes and Wallpapers forum, where this question has been answered hundreds of times.

Good luck.

There's a cap on the max size of an attachment. I think it's 1 Meg, but I could be wrong.
