Default Can we make the 8700c look like the 8700g/r??? - 08-18-2006, 09:41 AM

Hey Everyone,

A bunch of us here at work are trying to figure something out there before we actually purchase a bunch of these units. When you look at the 8700g (T-Mobile) and 8700r (Rogers AT&T) you notice that they always show the unit with a nice background. It looks something like with clouds and a road going through some valley...whatever it is it looks nice. Now when you look at the 8700c (Cingular) you do not see anything but just a plain white background with icons.

My questions is, with 8700c, can you change your background wallpaper to look like the 8700g or 8700r? If I downloaded the the wallapaper online into my 8700c will it look the same..is this possible. We are looking at getting the 8700c, but the screen is just not doing it for us whereas the 8700g and 8700r does...they actually make the unit look pretty nice and we were wondering if we could make the 8700c look like the 8700g/r.

Please advise

If i'm not mistaken you could make a theme with what you want and install that on the devices you purchase. Each device would be the same. A company theme or just a theme that fits your needs.

Different Themes are available in numerous places. The T-Mobile Themes have some Proprietary Icons that may not work on Cingular and vice versa.

The nicest ones I have seen is to take a Company Logo and turn it into a Theme Background.

OK. So let me ask you this Mr. Addict. I clicked on your site...very nice by the way...and what you are telling me is I can take any of those themes/wallpapers and apply them to any 8700 unit. For example, you have a a wallpaper called "Road" (mobile41.com/images/71xx_wallpaper/Road.jpg). This is the exact wallpaper for the 8700g. This can also be used on the 8700c and it will look the same as on the 8700g.

I know this sounds a little awkward and confusing. If you look at this site, rim.com/products/handhelds/index.shtml#8700 you can see the difference between the 8700g and 8700c.

No to the wallpaper idea yes to the themes idea. It's just as NJBlackBerry also mentioned. Those two phones have different vendors themes installed (or showing in the pictures). If you would like to make both model phones look the same accross the board no matter what make a theme and install it or use a theme that suits you tastes by downloading one already made for the 87xx model phones.

Just changing the background image will not change the banners/signal meters or icons nor the sub screen menus.

I have made several company themes for others who needed all their different model phones to look the same. 71x to different 87x models.

The BB Insight - Icon as mentioned would also be one theme that would work.

hope this helps?
