Default mencoder and audio ? - 10-18-2006, 01:15 PM

I like mencoder/mplayer a lot, but I'm having some conflicts with audio (loudness) vs file size. The volume I was getting was too soft with the original (ie. first post in this thread) settings, so I tried it with the lame audio encoder. The result of that was; audio much louder but file size almost doubled. Here is the line I'm using (and thanks to the original poster and those who posted the lame audio settings)...
mencoder -vf scale=240:180 <input file_name.avi> -o <output file_name.avi> -of avi -ovc lavc -oac mp3lame -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=230 -lameopts br=64:vol=8
Does anyone know of a "better" audio encoder and/or settings?

Is there a way to automate the use of Mencoder? I've made a batch file, but I'd like to maybe be able to target a file and execute from an icon. Is there a way to indicate what the <Input file> is with a command? Wish I was more accomplished at DOS in these situations.

Hi,

I have been using the dos-based mencoder program and converting some vids i have downloaded from You Tube (using the Video Downloaded plug-in) from Firefox

but once I have converted them onto the BB, the lip-sync appears to be out by a couple of secs

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any help, greatly appreciated

Try adding your extension to your input file (Imhot) and change your output file to Imhot.avi

Ok, we need to back up to the beginning.

The entire content of the MPlayer.zip file, that you downloaded from MPlayer - The Movie Player, need to be extracted to a folder. If you only extract the mplayer.exe file from that .zip to a folder then this process won’t work properly.

WOW! I read through this whole thread, and can't help but wonder, why has BB made this so difficult? I wish it was simply drag and drop. I'm sure i could create videos if i really dedicate myself to it, but as for right now it just seem so overwhelming.

I loaded one on my phone the other day, and the movie was dubbed in Spanish.

I have since checked all the movies I encoded so far. 3 turned up encoded dubbed in a language other than English. One in Spanish, two in French. I have no clue what made this happen.

However, after some digging, I found the switch to prevent it:

-alang en

This will force mencoder to use the English soundtrack when it encodes. I put it right before the input file path/name. I advise everyone who uses mencoder to go ahead and put this switch in the encoding string. It doesn't hurt anything, and it may save you hours of encoding time. And some frustration, of course.

FYI.
I copied a VOB from my DVD, used DVD Decrypter to decrypt it, then ran mencoder using the following command line:

mencoder -vf scale=240:180 -alang en e:\VTS_05_1.VOB -o e:\simp_1.avi -of avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=230:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64

Video came out in french. Help!

Excellent thread. Clear instructions from several posters. MrKyoo, very nice of you to be patient with many who have never worked with DOS (and those of us who have just plain forgotten it).

I would've simply said "anyone who can't get this to work, think about sending the phone back and getting something a bit more suited to your level of understanding.. like the sidekick" ;0D

Props to you!

Default Pocket DVD Studio - 10-24-2006, 08:57 AM

Hello Everyone!!

I haven't posted in this forum in a while since I had my T-Mobile 7100t a year ago or so, I dropped in to see what new thing had come up since I was gone and what could be done with the new BB 8100.

I don't have one yet I bought the SK3 and hadn't even seen the 8100 (hitting head on laptop!!!) believe me I would of bought it instead...

Went back and saw the 8100 at the T-Mobile store, it's nice I like that it comes with a camera and plays video now...(hitting head on laptop again!!)

If anyone want's a 2 week old SK3 no scratches and 0 talk time give me a holla' I only use it for e-mail and texting I use Nextel for phone...

Anyways seeing all the posts on AVI encoding and what not, Does anyone else think its a little to complicating with all that you have to do to Convert video to a format used in the BB which is AVI?????????? And forget 'bout DOS, haven't used it since the 6th grade. (lol)

Haven't tested it out yet on the BB but i'm pretty sure it will work, I use a program called "Pocket DVD Studio" it converts all VIDEO including straight from DVD either to WMV or AVI which I use for my 930 it can support many screen sizes and also for those who don't like Wide Sceen theres a slider bar to stretch the video to Full Screen it has a slide bar that you can use for picture quallity and onother for the sound quallity it goes from regular audio sound quallity to FM to CD and Better it can reduce a 700mb movie or Rip a DVD down to 300mb or less with awsome picture and sound quallity plus it has a volume bar to make your videos louder if wanted, it's also very easy to use and install I also included the Crack for it so you don't have to pay the 60 bucks it costs....

Here it is if any one wants to test it, I will be popping in time to time to help out with the program I will post a converted video when I get a chance so those who want to test the video before you download the program...Enjoy!!

This is what it looks like:

With mencoder, I just use 240:160 instead of 240:180. Works perfectly for me.

See if this works:

Instead of copying and decrypting the .VOB file, try using dvd://1.

Put your DVD in your computer's DVD drive. Your input string would then be:

mencoder -vf scale=240:180 -alang en dvd://1 -o e:\simp_1.avi -of avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=230:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64

Default Thanks to everyone! - 10-25-2006, 03:35 PM

I am using the script that was provided and the downloaded mencoder.

It works a treat! And I am practically Amish when it comes to DOS!

I am using the Sony Ericsson Media Studio, which I bought to put film on my M600i, to get the files off the DVD and then just drop the files created to the script icon on my desktop. It's like magic.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help.

I've tried super and converted a music Video and it looks great just the voice lags a little. I know nothing about DOS so I haven't even attempted the Mplayer but has anyone tried that Pocket DVD Studio program yet?

Question Did something... - 10-27-2006, 06:05 PM

K I'm A) new to BB. B)New to moding files. C) New to BBforums. All that said, I followed the instructions slighty modified (I couldn't place the vob file into my programs files. The DVD wouldn't let me move it.) I told the line to look for D:\filename.vob But in anycase it definitely did something. What it did I don't know. I got a very long notepad file. I don't see a new file anywhere. I did a search for my output filename, starwars4.avi Nothing. Now something deifinetly happened when I put "mencoder -vf scale=240:180 d:\VTS_02_0.vob -o StarWars4.avi -of avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:v..." into cmd. what I"m not sure. Any ideas?
I'm really looking forward to getting movies on my pearl! My only thought was that I might have to first rip the DVD? If so what kind of programs are available for that?

Thanks in advance...

Did you go into settings and change the Video output from WMV to AVI it comes WMV by default. WMV is a file used mainly by Windows Mobile and it won't work on handhelds that use AVI, also did you change the output screen to fit the BB? You can change it on the drop-down box on the top right hand corner thre should be no problem for the file to work in the BB after that.

The program I posted above Pocket DVD Studio rips DVD strait out and it has a built in decoder for those DVDs that are protected just start the app and pop in your DVD and the program should pick it up then choose your output for screen size and audio quality then press "Start Recording".. The programs self explanitory and easy to use.

Yeah, I changed everything to the stats others seem to be using on the other programs (i.e. size wise). But for some reason, I get a black screen of death when I put it on my BB. It plays fine on the computer of course, but I have't figured out what setting I am doing wrong for the blackberry.

I have successfully converted avi's and mpeg's to 8100 compatible mp4 with the linux version of avidemux. It is free (as in speech) and there are also versions for mac and windows.

Is that to say the DVD has to be ripped or just some of them? And did my strain look okay? And if all goes well, what happens on the computer, what should I look for?

Still looking forward to it. Thanks for everyone's help with us lamers.
