think they took out the ability to read and play adp rings?
All i get is error 400 browser doesnt support from any site i go to in this thread

anyone who has asked pretty much got no answer so i guess no one knows?

yeah fricken sucks
I didnt want to get the 7100i cause no ringtones that was holding me back then i found this thread and said cool i can put them on..... But now NO FRICKEN luck with the 7100i what so ever
maybe it has to do with the OS?
4.1?
others using lower then that?
then if thats it maybe there is a way to roll back to older OS?
Because it Clearly states in error details that the browser does not support adpcm
and a month ago i use to see posted on product details that the 7100 supports adpcm tones and now if you look up any of the 7100 product details they all say only midi
what the F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People actually buy BB's for the ringtones? Seriously? I can tell you right now, I seriously doubt that this is a major consideration for RIM when working on the OS or devices.
These are business devices. Stability, security, and functionality (with push email, calendaring etc.) are the primary concerns. Go get a sidekick or a i930. It sounds like it might be a more appropriate device for you.
(On an aside: I just read a thread post on HoFo where someone mentioned emailing the ringtone directly to your bb email address was the way to get it loaded on the 7100i. I think the manual mentioned something about that.)

i changed the subject so it may clear up the confusion surrounding the 7100i and ADPCM ringtones... it does not support ADPCM ringtones, but it does support WAV files. with that said, no one has figured out how to load them, either via the Browser or MMS, to the handheld. it appears that, although the Media Player supports the audio/x-wav MIME format, the browser and MMS translators do not, thus making it impossible to load a WAV file onto the handheld, for now.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

So I noticed that someone asked before if loading ringtones to a BB7520 is possible. Is it? and can you use the same software that was provided in the beginning of this entire discussion? Please let me know............

i just read through a lot of this thread before finally realizing that my 7520 can't use the .adp files. so where would you all recommend finding the midi ringtones? i tried emailing myslef some midi files but BB won't open the attachments.
since this thread has gotten so long, and doesn't apply to 7520 (and possibly other) users you may want to create some sub-forums.

One thing that I have found is you are able to get the .wav files to your phone (7100i) via email. You can send them in a zip file and then unzip it. However, I still have yet to find a format that will actually bring up the media player for listening and saving.

Here's one thing that I don't get about the whole "voice tone" thing and why the 7100i can't do it (at the moment at least) If you have the GPS function on the 7100i, it gives you VOICE instructions when you're approaching your turn and or destination...so if this happens...WHERE ARE THE REAL RING TONES????? Can someone PLEASE find a way? I'm dying in polyphonic vertigo over here.....

My ringtones don't work -
11-05-2005, 05:23 PM
I have read this thread from beginning to end at least three times. I think I am following the instructions as outlined above, but my ringtones won't work.
If I download a ringtone from luckyluciano... and place it on my private web site, I am able to use my 7100T and download it from my site and play/save it. If I create my own ADPCM ringtone and place it on my site I get an error stating that the page can not be displayed.
I input an MP3, clip it to about 15 or 20 seconds, set it to mono, 16bit 1600Hz - all the same attributes I see if I input the ADPCM file from the luckyluciano site.
I know this is most likely some stupid mistake I am making, but I havent a clue as to what it might be. The only thing I can see that I have done differently is that I used the Motorola version of the Phone Tools because I have a Moto V220 that I still use and need those tools for it.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'm about 90% of the way there...but its that blasted last 10% *sigh*
I've created my own ADP files using the philips tool.
I've loaded them up to my webserver using CoffeCup FTP, but when I try to download them into my 7100g, the file comes up as code-text...I suppose what we used to call ASCII.
I've tried adding the .htaccess file to the directory, but when I do so, I cannot access anything from that directory anylonger...even things moments before that I could download, like .jpgs and such.
Any ideas?
It's almost as if my browser thinks the ADP file is a text file and is simply displaying the contents of the file.
I suppose its possible my I FTP'ed the file up as text, but i've tried changing its extention from ADP to JPG locally just to make sure my FTP client knew to treat it as a binary...no difference.
I'm stumped...
help if ya can...much thanks...

You don't state which web server you are using. On the off chance that it is Apache2, look at the config file that defines the users personal web site - in SuSE the file is in /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf. Look for the stanza that defines /home/*/public_html. Look at the line that starts with AllowOverride. If that line does not contain the word Options, then the Options line in .htaccess is causing an error which will prevent access to your home html directory.
Hope this helps - Good luck

Well, I think my problem is solved, though I am not sure why. I removed my copy of the Moto phone tools and installed the Philips version. That made no difference. The .adp files from my web site would still not work if they were the ones I created.
I removed the Philips phone tools and re-installed the Motorola version because I need them for my V220. I created some new ringtones using extracts from MP3 files and the Melody Ctr. from the Moto tools. Still no joy.
I pulled the batery and SIM card from my 7100T and when I re-booted the BB the ringtones from my web site would load and play - even some of the old ones that I created several days ago.
I hate it when that happens - problems don't normally just dissapear.

skip all the COD, JAD, JAR stuff and just put the MIME types for the ADP files.

Blackberry 7100i -
11-07-2005, 05:38 PM
If (ADP) ringtones do not work in the NEXTEL BB 7100i then which do? I recently purchases one and I wanna add some ringtones. I've had other Nextel phones ex: i710, i730, i830, i860. If you get the point, and all have had either Wav. or mp3. Then I wanted a phone that not everyone and there mothers have so I went with BB 7510 upgraded to BB 7520 now I puchased a BB 7100i and you mean to tell me than I still can't put my favorite ringtones on it. Can someone please help? If anyone comes up with a way I will help with the making of ringtones upon request.. It's fine believe me I've done it in the past for other IDEN forums.. Thanks to all in advance. p.s. And yes I did buy the Blackberry 7100i for the looks not for what it does. A difference amongst the crowd.

I'm waiting for the same thing for my 7100i. This would just a little perk to add to my phone and not make it so boring when it comes to the ringtone factor.

Deleting Ringtones -
11-07-2005, 10:04 PM
Well, my web hosting company added the ADP mimetype to all their servers...pretty good customer service I must say.
I use Globat in case anyone else has them for a hosting company; if so, your ADP files should work like a charm now.
So, now I've added a few ringtones and it struck me...how do I get these things out again and reclaim the memory.
I poked around the setup menus but couldn't find anyplace to delete ringtones...am I missing something obvious?
Thanks,
Robert

please read the MANY threads on this forum concerning the 7100i and wav files. this thread was edited to say 'NOT 7100i' for a reason. there's 60 other threads concerning it, details on what it plays and doesn't play, details on why it is thought that it won't accept wav files, etc.

I would agree, but.... if older 7100's can take homemade ringtones, and the new 7100i can't, they do care because they stopped allowing it.

You really need to read all the posts that jibber jabber about downloading ringtones on to the 7100i.
You will soon discover some interesting things about this subject.

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/c...p2_ics_eng.zip
First edit your .wav or .mp3 down to about 15 seconds. We need to make sure that the final .adp file is under 120K, which seems to be the max file size the 7100 can handle. Save the file as an MS PCM wav.
Next, install Mobile Phone Tools. Skip the part that asks for your Identifier, fax #, etc. Also, whenever you start the program it's gonna ask how your phone is connected to your PC. Since it only works with Philips phones, click cancel.
Mobile Phone Tools can apparently be used to sync contacts, email, etc, but we have a Blackberry so we don't care about that functionality. All we need this program for is the Multimedia Center. Click the Menu button, then Tools, then Multimedia Center. Once this opens click on the button that says Melody Studio. Open your wav, click Save As, and select Oki ADPCM as the file type.
Now upload this file to your web server. Before you can download to the 7100, you need to make sure that the correct MIME type has been set. MIME types tell a browser how to handle certain file extensions. You want to add the MIME type "audio/adpcm adp". The way to do this differs from server to server, so check your web server's documentation or speak w/ your hosting company.
Once you've got the MIME type set, and the .adp file uploaded, open up the BB browser and navigate to the URL where your .adp is. It can take a few minutes for it to load, so don't panic. Once the Media Player has loaded and your ring tone is playing, click the scroll wheel and choose save. It'll ask for confirmation that you want to save it (you can also change the file name at this point).
That's it. You've now got a ringtone infinitely better than midi on your 7100 ;)
I'll be updating this as more information is known. There's still a few bugs to work out as far as the absolute max file size, etc.

A few things:
1- After installing the Mobile phone tools, when I go to the Menu --> Tools, the Multimedia Studio option is greyed out, I can't access it. Has anyone had this issue? which operating system should I install it on?
2- Does anyone knows about a different application other than Mobile phone tools to convert the file from .wav to ADPCM?
Thanks,

I tried launched C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\MMCenter.exe directly, but Melody Studio does not want to list files that I know exist.
Did Philips sneak in a new version that disables that stuff if it doesn't detect a phone or something?

A working solution -
12-23-2005, 07:27 PM
Alright guys, I finally figured out how to create a properly formatted adp file. Things you will need:
- An audio program capable of saving files to .wav in 16000Hz 16 bit Mono PCM format.
- A version of Melody Studio that actually works. This one seems to work quite well. (Found this here)
Now for the steps to convert your audio sample to adp: - Use your audio editor to save the file to a Mono 16000Hz 16 bit PCM .wav file. ADPCM may also work as long as the rest of the settings are the same, but I haven't tried it.
- Run MMCenter (from the link in step 2 above) and click the Melody Studio tab on the left.
- Browse to the .wav file you created in Step 1 and open it. It should show a waveform in the bottom portion of the window. The phone graphic at the top-right should show Compression: PCM, Frequency: 16000Hz, 16 bit Mono.
- Click File->Save As, enter a file name, and select Oki ADPCM as the file type.
Congratulations! You now have an adp file that will play on a 7100r, and hopefully the other 7100's.
Now, to get the damn file onto your phone, you need to read the rest of this thread. By the way, the correct MIME type for IIS seems to be "audio/adpcm". Not "audio/adpcm adp". At least that's what I had to use to get it to work.

my .wav file (created with quicktime pro) only shows up in MMS Studio (which can only save to .mpr) and not in Melody Studio.
what gives?
and this server is down, so i can't download: http://www.fileoperator.com/multimedia.zip
edit: apparently this problem is common

I used SoundForge Audio Studio 8.0 to create my wav. I turned off the option to save metadata to the file. Not sure if that matters...
So just to summarize the format of the .wav file again: - 16000Hz
- 16 bit
- Mono
- PCM (uncompressed) [or possibly ADPCM]
- Mono
- No metadata
fileoperator.com seems to be back up now. Just to be clear - the version of Melody Studio that was posted way back at the beginning of this thread never showed me any audio files ever. The version from fileoperator.com always shows me audio files.
