Default Unlock (most) themes without OS update or platform.alx/vendor.xml changes! - 10-28-2006, 02:38 PM

Ok, as usual, at your own risk etc. etc.

I wanted to find a way to unlock all themes on my stock t-mobile 8100 (unlocked to cingular) without reloading the OS and using the platform.alx/vendor.xml methods listed, instructions are as follows

1 - Download and install pretty much any of the existing OS releases, copy the following files (from the java subfolder) to any different folder:

net_rim_theme_105_240x260.cod
net_rim_theme_109_240x260.cod
net_rim_theme_114_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_119_icon_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_120_today_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_125_zen_240x260_b.cod

2 - *MOVE* or DELETE the directory from c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loaders files
this way when you run desktop manager you won't have any prompts to update/downgrade/change the OS

in application loader simply load the ALX files in the attached zip files

the result is the following new themes are listed on my stock 8100:

T-mobile Zen (white)

Vodaphone Today: SMS/MMS as not only a seperate icon, seperate indicator on top of the screen and seperate entry on the today page!

Orange: dumps most icons into an "applications" folder)

O2 Zen: Seperate SMS/MMS icon and top indicator

Cingular (Looks like stock 7130 theme)

Following are on the list but do not let themselves be selected:

Verizon
Bell

if anybody knows what files or missing (or if they are in the respective carrier's OS files) please add to the thread

enjoy and add new buried themes as you find them in carrier distributions (if they exist)

UPDATE: here is a whacky little thing, the vodaphone theme does not give you the option to remap the right side key, only the left(always on cam) a bit annoying, please post theme related oddities as well

1; Download attached zip file
2; Extract contents (I usually put them straight to desk-top, it makes it easier to locate the files.)
3; If you haven't already, download and install a BlackBerry Manager program from your provider Links to the software can be found in the 'RIM Software thread' on the main page
4; Locate the folder labeled 'Java' in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\shared\loaders files
5; Locate these files:
net_rim_theme_105_240x260.cod
net_rim_theme_109_240x260.cod
net_rim_theme_114_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_119_icon_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_120_today_240x260_b.cod
net_rim_theme_125_zen_240x260_b.cod
and move them somewhere.
6; cut the folder labeled 'Loader Files' and paste them somewhere else or simply delete the folder.
7; Start BlackBerry Desk top manager (connect your phone...)
8; Select 'Application Loader'
9; Click 'Add' on the loader screen and select the files you've downloaded in the zip package.
10; Click 'next' and let the PC do it's job.
11; Wait until phone re-boots (could take a bit) and voila, you have new themes!

Works great, thanks a lot Crypto60

I'm not sure if this happened to you, but after i did all this my blackberry browser was gone. The service book is still there and the applications screen shows I have the browser app....Any suggestions?

Update: I did a wipe and then hooked it back up to my company's BES and my browser was back and it also restored the new themes.
