I know that someone is going to be upset that I am asking this question. But I have spent the last 4 hours trying to figure out how to correctly add the package of themes from the sticky:
BlackBerry.alx - Edited Files for Packaged Theme Installation (4.1 & 4.2 ONLY)
I am pretty good with computers. And have been using PDA's for over a decade. But that sticky says not to try what it says unless you really know what your doing.
Well I am new to the Blackberry Pearl, but I want to put the other themes on it, as I heard some other ones can seperate the messages from the emails, and I need this functionality.
Can someone please point out to me what I am supposed to do with the files or at least point me to a thread that really outlines it.
Let me tell you what it is I think I have to do, and you can tell me if I am right or not.
(Blackberry Pearl 8100, Rogers Canada)
1. Backup my Pearl
2. Download 8100M_PBr4.2.0_rel61_PL2.2.0.32_A4.2.0.51_Rogers.e xe direct from the link that leads to xxx.blackberry.xxx\ . . .
3. run 8100M_PBr4.2.0_rel61_PL2.2.0.32_A4.2.0.51_Rogers.e xe on my desktop computer.
4. Delete Vendor.xml file from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
5. Rename Blackberry.alx from Installation Path: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.0.51_P2.2.0.32 to anything else.
(Can I just put this file somewhere else for safe keeping?)
6. Download 8100-Rogers-4.1.0.61 (blackberry.alx) from the link in the FAQ as well, and place the file into C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.0.51_P2.2.0.32
7. Open desktop software and upgrade/update blackberry.
- Should step 7 automatically run when I plug in the blackberry, if it was not connected.
- Do I shutdown the desktop software before starting this?
- Should my blackberry be connected while performing steps 1-6?
If this is correct what do I do with the other file that was downloaded in the 8100-Rogers-4.1.0.61 (blackberry.alx) package, that being Platform.alx?
I do not think this is too difficult to do, I just do not want to screw up and could not find a step by step anywhere that outlines this for beginners.
Thanks,
Allan
