Default BB7100i Ringtones (And prolly more) Through USB, Without MDS Simulator - 01-23-2007, 06:28 PM

OK, first off, I know a method of downloading ringtones w/o going to the web has been posted before, and it is a great method, but since the update to the 7100i for Nextel (and other iden networks) has been posted, the simulator has not been updated as well and the method using the restore and MDS Simulator does not work.

That being said, here is how to do it w/o MDS simlator.

First off, what you will beed:

Berry 8100 Device Simulator (aka Handheld Simulator 4.2)

Blackberry Desktop Manager V. 4.2

Once both are installed, run the 8100 Device Sumulator. The click on "Simulate" and then "USB Cable Connected"

Then run Desktop Manager. Make sure you are running version 4.2
Desktop manager will act like a Berry is plugged in. This is the Simulator.

On Desktop Manager click on Media Manager. In the pane on the right hand side of the window that comes up, navigate toDevice Memrory, then the "Ringtones" fold of the 8100. From there, drag and drop all your WAV ringtones (I make mine 8 bit, mono, 8000hz) here.

The close the Media Manager and open Backup and Restore, then click on Advanced.
From the list of choices in the right pane, choose "Content Store" and click the Right Arrow, then click close, and when prompted, choose save.

Finally, close the simulator and the active "Advaced" window, then connect your BB7100i. Choose "Restore" and open the backed up files you created, and all the content will be loaded onto your 7100i.

ANY PREDOWNLOADED PICTURES AND RINGTONES WILL BE GONE!!!!

To keep what you already have, first creat a backup of the "Content Store" on your 7100i, then restore that to the simulated 8100 via the method above, and and new content after the fact.

Enjoy, hope this helps someone.
