I grabbed one in the store, but thinking about taking it back now for the 2GB card at CompUSA. For just $15 more, that's a great deal.

Sorry For The Ignorance, But -

Would someone please advise what one can do with such a card on the new 8800 (besides download cd music)? How would it come in handy for the regular BB user?

Store photos, music, movies, and ringtones. Device memory is only 64MB, so adding a MicroSD of 2GB would really let you add a few extras to your BB.

2 GB MicroSD -
02-20-2007, 03:19 PM
I just bought one from this guy on eBay. Let's see how it goes. He's from Hong Kong. It should take a while to get here. If it is a scam, which I think it is not, 30 bucks is a small price to create awareness.

On ebay you have to watch out for fake ones. A lot of them from overseas are fake, not all, but a lot.

Which Brand? -
02-20-2007, 04:38 PM
I have a question for all you BB gurus. What is a good brand of microSD card to get? I know SanDisk is a good one, but what about Kingston or one of the other nock-offs? Is there really much of a difference? I'd like to get more info before I get one. Thanks in advance guys.
Comp-U-Plus has Sandisk 2 GB for sale for $44.00 if anyone is interested.

forget brands... they are all made in the same asian factories and then different brand stickers are attached.
Just get the cheapest you can get.

Just received my 1G card from Newegg.com. Great price, product arrived in 2 days and works perfectly without any re-formatting issues. Highly recommended!

Will the MicroSD card be able to store regular data, like lots, and lots of email and Auto/Text info, GPS data, and third party applications such as Spellcheck, that are not media related? Will the storage occur automatically as you cram data into the Berry, or will you have to direct the data to the card? Does the extra storage space improve the speed of the Berry?

No, right now it will only store media files such as ringtones, pictures, music, and videos. However, you can use it as a mass storage device if you needed to add extra things not media related, but you won't be able to access it from the BB, only from the computer when hooked up.

You ever work in a chip foundry? I have, and I'll tell you there can be a wide variety in the quality of the chips, even on a single slice. I'd be willing to bet that those companies that care for their rep spend extra for the chips with the lower MTBF ratings.

You can always use the RSS feed from bensbargains and then set up a filter to always put mini sd items in a seperate folder. Bens has a couple of Mini SD deals a day...

Buy.com $32.07 After Google Checkout Free Ship -
03-09-2007, 05:48 PM
If you haven't used Google checkout, get $10 off the total price. You get the 2Gb Sandisk MicroSD card with adapter in a retail package. Even if you have used GC, sign up under an alternate email and credit card and get the best deal going! It was $39.99 before discount when I ordered. Why take a risk on Ebay?

All CompUSA's in GA are going out of business. So, if you are looking for even cheaper MicroSD cards, check them out. Why they are leaving GA was not an answer any employee at the store (Marietta) could tell me, but everthing (including fixtures) is on sale 30-50% off today and the cost saving should get better the closer they get to closing (May 1, 2007).
Just FYI.

Yep they are closing over 1/2 of their stores. They have a list on their site. I bet they are all gone soon.

The ones that are runing the to be closed stores are liquidators and they have actualy bought the stock from USA and are liquidating and what ever they get above the purchase price they get to keep. I was there the first day they started and I had no idea that they were closing the store by me. Their prices were actualy even higher than before and none of the taged prices were right. They wanted $89 for the 1gig MSD which I bought it at $34 2 weeks before. I opted to walk out (did not buy what I was there for) and headed to another store (Microcenteer and got my 2 gig SD for $49 and every thing lese for over 50% of what Compusa was charging. Be carefull as you might actualy be paying more than you would normaly do. The disount on the prices are of the actual MSRP.

I'm ready to upgrade from 1GB to 2GB at that price, thanks. Could someone post the procedure of how to use the Google Checkout to obtain the $10 discount?

To use Google checkout just add the item to your cart and then click on the Google Checkout button on the top right of the page in the shopping cart (that's where it was on Buy.com at least).
It will then prompt you to signup for a new account and your $10 will show in the cart. Nice and easy!

$10 or $20 off? -
03-15-2007, 11:38 AM
It's very easy, but when I first logged in to Google Checkout, they showed me a $20 discount (amazing), but when I filled out the forms and such, it changed to $10 (still great). What's up with that? I only expected the $10 off, but why the tease with the $20 off first?
In any event, I bought the 2GB card for $21.01---not bad at all!

Yeah, it did the same exact thing to me too. Still a great deal for a name brand (or any brand for that matter) even with shipping!
