Sometimes the simplest things can surprise you.

I was looking around for nice backgrounds to use on my 8800. While there are a lot around (less so than other models but still plenty that can be used, since I was only looking for backgrounds and not entire themes), I had a tough time making a decision.

And I found that while many backgrounds are beautiful looking graphics in themselves, not all were suitable for use due to icon placement/readability, and sometimes the colour made an icon title hard to read in a certain location.

Anyways, on a whim I decided to just load up a basic paint program, create a 320 x 240 sized file, and filled it with just black. No lines, no designs or patterns, just solid black. Copied that to the phone, and set it as my background image.

Wow, the readability is incredible (these old eyes 'n such, hehe) and suitable for business or what-have-you. Very easy to read in direct sunlight, which was something that I found to be a problem at times.

While it's definitely not cool, nor anything I would want to show off to friends, I was surprised at how much I like it.

I also tend to use pictures with very dark backgrounds...currently that background included a shot of Jessica Alba...but it is a black background!

Some others have done this with various models, and screened images in the black, as well.
