Default Media Center icon not in BB Desktop Manager - 08-15-2007, 01:45 PM

Hello,

I just got a 8830 w/ Bell Canada (My first BB), I installed BB Desktop Manager but I don't have an icon for Media Center, anyone ever seen this ?

I uninstall and re-install it, plus I also get the latest release on BB's website (SP2) and I still can't see the media center icon.

Are you on a BES? It's possible that your BES admin has disabled the Media Manager in BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

If your BES admin has disabled Media Manager... then NO, there is no way for you to use it.

I was never on BES so I don't know much about BES, but what you saying is BES admin can disable media manager on your computer? I thought they only have control on your BB by pushing policy to your BB, I am not 100% sure, please clarify.

EricLambert

Which BlackBerry Desktop Software v4.2 Service Pack 2 you had download?

File name: Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 (English)
File size: 231 MB

or

File name: Desktop Software v4.2 SP2 without Media Manager (English).exe
File size: 52 MB

Also the install process take quite a while, did you go thru the whole process?

Yes, BES can absolutely disable features of Desktop Manager, in addition to disabling features of the BlackBerry Device. There are IT Policies that directly impact the funtionality of BlackBerry Desktop Manager. One of such policies is the ability to enable/disable Media Manager.

Anything that connects to a BES can be controlled. In a BES environment, IT policies are enforced on Desktop Manager as well, because it directly communicates with BES.

In my environment, we disable the use of Media Manager on BlackBerry Desktop. I assume that's what's happening to the OP in this thread as well.

Wow!!! If that is the case, it may be more feasible to issue older devices.

I still don't understand how BES would disable anything on the computer? Is it something like policy get push to your handheld and when you connect you handheld to the computer, media manager will disable?

In a BES environment, Desktop Manager connects directly to BES.
When you log in to DM, BES pushes the IT Policy settings directly to Desktop Manager through whatever network connection you've set up.

The 7290 is not compatible with Roxio Media Manager.
You need OS version 4.2 which is not available for the 7290.

In the future, please start a new topic of your own rather than hijacking someone else's.
