Additional Comments: I received the device and the first thing I noticed, was there were no stickers under the battery with the barcodes. The next thing I noticed was that it was 'locked', when the thread said 'unlocked'. Then after I unlocked it, everything seemed to be OK. I inserted my SIM card and was able to make calls and send/receive SMS. Then I went online to change devices on my BIS site. That's when I really knew something was up. When I entered the PIN and IMEI, a message popped up saying "The PIN you entered is currently suspended or deactivated". I immediately contacted the seller and he said that it was working fine on his account before he sold it to me and that he would contact RIM to find out what was going on. I also contacted RIM and opened a case with them to investigate the cause of this. Well, I received a call back from RIM stating that the device was a store demo and that after a period of time, the PIN is deactivated and they will not reactivate it. This leads me to believe that he stole it from a store, or got it from someone who stole it from a store.

So, then I tried to contact the seller, with no response. I filed a claim on PayPal and the seller turned it around on me and PayPal closed the claim. Then the seller removed me from BB Messenger so that I couldn't contact him anymore. I also noticed that he removed his phone number from his web site, Home. Luckily, I knew he would do this, so I wrote down the phone number and PIN ahead of time.

Now I'm talking with my credit card company and they have refunded my money and are going after PayPal for the money, and then ultimately PayPal will go after the seller.

DO NOT do business with Cory Scheuer or CCG Burning!!!! He is a scam artist!!!

Happy New Year to all!!

Wow. This is pretty surprising. I've always heard good things about Cory and CCG Burning.

I agree... this just doesn't jive with Cory's reputation here. I find it very hard to believe that he's purposely giving you a raw deal.... are you sure you've included all the details? I mean, this is a very damaging review which is sure to have repercussions for some time.

Yes, the moderators have PM'd me to discuss the issue with Cory before I posted this. Also, he has done this to a few others as well.

Wow, this comes as a shock to me as well. I always thought Corey was a stand up guy. At the same time I've seen mckinneycm around these forums helping others for a long time. I don't see him having any reason to make false claims. I hope this gets resolved for you. Sorry for your misfortunes.

Well, it's pretty interesting how someone, who is on BBF everyday "helping" people, hasn't posted since 12/28. That's an entire week!!! If he was in fact a "good guy" and "reputable", I think he would be here defending himself and continuing to reply to posts.

Corey

As i said to you when we were talking, it was a working device on my account, i bought the device from a Rogers store. After that i have no idea what happened, however i am working on it with RIM. I have talked to about 5 different RIM reps and all say that the PIN is clean and everything so i dont know what is going on. I'm having it escalated in RIM.

I havent been back since, because i have had some personal issues i am working out... I'm not going to go into detail because i'm sorry its no ones business.

Like i said many times to you, and others it was a clean device when i had it and was working on MY rogers account. so this is all news to me as to why it just stopped working.

as for the comment about my website, forgive me for having it redesigned. i didnt know that wasnt allowed.

I take extreme offence to this, one bad transaction, for which i have no control over (thanks RIM) and i'm called a scam artist... wow....

Like i have said i am working on this, on my end and working with RIM to get this all figured out...

Hope everyone is having a good holiday season!

Everything Cory said sounds reasonable to me, sh** happens and I do not think this was intentional, he is trying his best to find out what went on so give him time and keep the scam artist toughts to yourself until you have proof. I just think it was uncalled for.

That's interesting, since the case number I have with RIM says that the device is an old demo device and will not be reactivated.

But, if you can prove me wrong and make things right, I will gladly retract everything I have said and send my deepest apologies.

However, the first thing that made me think you were shady, was the fact that as soon as I mentioned this to you, you deleted me from BB Messenger and you removed your PIN from your profile.

I hope that I am wrong!!! Happy Holidays!!!

Kris, I was not under the impression that you worked for RIM. Why would having either of the case numbers be suitable, aside from being a third-party that would do nothing more than cause more conflict where it wasn't needed.

In all honesty, you have one Corey stating that RIM claims the device is a store demo without stickers that was deactivated (standard practice) and another Cory that claims he purchased the device from a Rogers store (assuming in the box from a Rogers sales agent).

As I know that Cory has strong ties to Rogers - both personally and through his former business - I would say that Corey's statements would be correct and I would not assume this device would be reactivated. Of course, I've seen stranger things happen, but paying $400 CAD for a store demo is not a fair deal, especially if it was not disclosed in the original sale.

I would suggest to find one of the more candid RIM technicians on here to have a look at the device PIN history (you'll need to provide them the PIN and IMEI) to see if they can track down exactly what is happening.

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and is widely regarded as a bad move.

I understand your concern jibi... I have a contact there whom I have spoken on and off with throughout the years... I was hopeful he couls check the case numbers and give some feedback...

Perhaps you are correct and it would only add to the confusion but I don't mind trying to act as a disinterested 3rd party in this...

Default $300 to unlock a phone? - 01-08-2009, 02:24 PM

Rogers charges $499 regular price for the 8900 and on his (Cory) website he's selling it for $800 - the only difference appears to be the fact that it's unlocked

I asked him a question on his website for the price for the phone locked and he hasn't replied yet.... honestly, I don't even understand why anyone would #1-work for those vulture wireless carriers and #2-deal with an ex-employee of those vulture wireless carriers!

I can't wait until you can buy devices direct from RIM... it's bound to happen soon and then the carriers can go ef themselves

There is always a price for purchasing an unlocked device. Are you sure that it is only unlocked, and not an unbranded device, as you would purchase from RIM?

There is not "always" a price for purchasing an unlocked device.

This matter doesn't have anything to do with being unlocked.

I was merely adding my experience with the 'shady' activity of re-selling and unlocking phones ... and a personal commentary of the shackles we are forced to accept. Cory is in a shady business and thus should be viewed as such! This 'service' they provide is capitalizing on the symptoms created by a consumer-corrupt monopolistic and opportunistic wireless 'service' - much like the service environment a pot dealer operates within (created by the anal prohibition laws)!

my three cents!

If you don't understand my comment you can ask for clarification!

if you wanted to ignore my comment... you picked an awfully contentious way to do so with your accusations - my references to pills were metaphors... and I apologize for any inconvenience

There were metaphors, inappropriate and useless. A trifecta from a new user.

It has everything to do with it. You have not been here long enough to make posts like you did. Stay here long enough, build up respect as a member, and then you can make those types of posts.

Anyway, we're off-topic.
