Sith_Apprentice 04-10-2008 11:23 AM

texting goes over the voice network, you might be having carrier related issues as well.

I've been getting those red Xs today as well... if I try to resend a few times... it usually works... not sure what the issue is.

RedVR6 04-10-2008 03:39 PM

Try resending. Just took me three tries on an email from yahoo to Gmail. That has been happening all week for me.

metro12 04-10-2008 03:46 PM

No problems today here on Massachusetts verizon (BIS). I have been receiving all my e-mails.

Sith_Apprentice 04-10-2008 03:52 PM

delete the service books for the email accounts and resend the. if that doesnt work use the HRT and register now.

ATOH 04-10-2008 04:06 PM

No issues here in Ohio VZW service. All has functioned normal all day.

walds11 04-10-2008 04:18 PM

VZW Chicago, BIS fine here all day

Phranc 04-10-2008 05:42 PM

Alltel, VA, BIS is instant.

wibbly 04-11-2008 03:21 AM

Broken for me for a few days now. An increasing (random selection) of mails arrive at my GMail (actually Google Apps email) accounts, and never arrive on my BB.

In the last 12hrs I must be missing 20%+ of my email on my BB :-(

I am using default/POP based BIS setup to Gmail. Anyone seeing problems after they set up for IMAP instead?

Blackberry IMAP setup for Gmail

BHA 04-14-2008 09:25 AM

Is anyone still having trouble?

I have been having problems for the last few days with my GoDaddy BIS mail. All of the sudden, I started getting about 50% of the mail delivered to my BB. The rest just doesn't get delivered.

Seems like the problem described in this thread, but I am still having the problem (as of 4am this morning).

Does anyone have more info on this problem? Does RIM say it's resolved and should I look elsewhere, or is still an "active" issue?

audit 04-14-2008 09:29 AM

To the best of our knowledge, the issue is resolved.

wibbly 04-14-2008 09:31 AM

My problem turned out to be a corrupt message database. After removing all the messages (I decided to wipe the BB, and not restore the message database), all suddenly became fine. I had 7,600+ messages that I had migrated over several BB's and BB models. They only seemed to fill < 7MB of space, but I guess the BB lost the plot at some some point. Odd that mail didn't fail outright - it just got worse and worse over a couple of weeks.

There is no current RIM outage issue. TMo in your local area, or even a local tower could have an issue. But that still doesn't explain half your mail being delivered. Which half is it... old stuff and not new, or what?

TL_Gator 04-14-2008 09:35 AM

Wirelessly posted

Everything is working good here now.

BHA 04-14-2008 02:39 PM

By "50% of my mail being delivered", I didn't mean old or new. It appears that approximately every other message is being delivered.

Actually if I look at today's mail (approx 16 msgs) it in fact delivered every other one (msg #1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.). I checked to make sure it is not a pattern, and it is most certainly not.. messages came in spurts of 2 at a time last night and again this afternoon. But most of the time I get about 1 of 2 messages sent to my BB.

Will try a battery pull now.. not sure what else to do!

John Clark 04-14-2008 04:23 PM

I could be way off here but I'll just post my opinion anyway...

It seems to me that with the addition of 2 million subscribers every quarter we are going to slowly loose some of our "instantaneous" email. Honestly, I know very little about the inner workings of the RIM NOC but I do know that with numbers like this RIM and the carriers must be scrambling to keep up with demand. We are only using more and more data/bandwidth with every addition of a feature...emailing pictures, mapping, etc. I think we're certain to see slow-downs more often.

BHA 04-15-2008 08:19 AM

Weird!

OK I tried a battery pull last night, and resent service books. Checked my mail this morning and I have now confirmed that....

Every OTHER email is being delivered to my BB.

Any idea why? I got 6 emails last night (overnight while sleeping) and checked my BB this morning and saw msg #1, 3, and 5.

When I checked my godaddy mail this AM, I saw msgs 2, 4, and 6 and they were unread. 1, 3, and 5 were marked read (because I read them on my BB). 2, 4, and 6 were NEVER sent to the BB.

Any thoughts?? This is getting really frustrating!

JSanders 04-15-2008 08:27 AM

Do you have any filters set on your BIS account?

How is your BIS account for the GoDaddy setup... you simply enter the [email address] and password?

BHA 04-15-2008 03:33 PM

Never had any filters. It seems to be literally filtering out "random" emails (seems to be every 2nd one, at least last night).

Just got 2 emails from someone, and only 1 was delivered to my BB.

I did the "full" setup for BIS (enter wrong password, select "enter settings manually", etc.) because that was the only way I could set up IMAP.

If I just put in username and password, I got POP3. That seems contrary to what others have reported here.. I've heard people say they enter username/password and get IMAP but that doesn't work for me.

Should I try deleting/recreating the BIS account? Not sure why this started happening all of the sudden late last week (ie. around the time RIM announced this outage).

JSanders 04-15-2008 04:01 PM

I have GoDaddy services also. Their IMAP setup is funky, but I am told it works when set correctly, and there is a good thread here in that regard... let me find it for you.

JSanders 04-15-2008 04:04 PM

Here we go... I am pointing you to the specific instructions, but there is a whole lengthy thread if you want to peruse it and see how it developed.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...tml#post879017

Best to ask further questions related to this, in that thread.

Good luck.

IMAP can time out if there are a lot (900+) messages in your inbox. Also note my comment above re a corrupt database on your BlackBerry. Backup the BlackBerry and delete all mail. If that doesn't cure it you can restore the mail from the backup using custom restore in the DM.

walds11 04-16-2008 09:24 AM

Doh, it happened again yesterday evening. Took me almost 10 resend attempts to send an email through. WT...!!!

BHA 04-16-2008 01:11 PM

Solved!

Thanks Wibbly for sending me in the right direction!

This is really weird, but here is what caused it:

I moved from a BB7100 to my current 8800 and transferred all of my stuff (contacts, emails, etc.) So I had 3 months of email on my BB8800.

I did the backup thing as wibbly suggested, and was about to delete all of the mail from the BB. Just out of interest, I thought I would check the backup to see just how many messages were in my Inbox (ie. to see if it was over 900 or not).

Guess what the number was? 999 messages.

So apparently there is a hard limit of 999 msgs in your inbox. I think every time one got old enough to drop off, a new one was allowed in. That's why I was getting every other message (approximately). There could never be more than 999 msgs in the inbox.

Once I blew away the inbox messages, everything has been working perfectly since!

As a precaution, I have set the limit on the BB to 30 days for how long it keeps old messages.

Hope this helps anyone having this problem in the future.. definitely do a backup and see how many msgs in your inbox!

wibbly 04-16-2008 01:47 PM

My comment about ~900 messages is the size of the inbox on your IMAP email account, not the BB. I had problems when there were about 7,500 messages in my BB - a lot more than 999!

Been getting Red X's today too...requiring me to resend emails 4 - 5 times. Real annoying.

Yahoo with RED Xs and I couldn't even send the reply. Can receive fine. It only gets through if it's a new outgoing email.
