Default Calling all KansasKats - Data Outage in Southern Kansas - 09-02-2009, 11:05 AM

ANyone else experiencing data / email issues in Wichita and southern Kansas on T-Mobile? I have a Storm that was working perfectly fine yesterday morning on the way to work; since then, not a dang thing (data or email). Since I have an unsupported device, I wanted to see if anyone else is having issues. Thx!

Exclamation TMo Outage in Kansas Sept 1-3 - 09-03-2009, 09:51 AM

I'm unsure of when the crash initially started but for the last 2.5 days I have been dead in the water with my Storm unlocked on TMobile here in Kansas!

No email, no data, no BES! T-Mobile was at a loss as to the issue until now possibly!!!

So that rules out the "Georgia and other states in the southeast".

Kansas isn't in the southeast, Toto.

Toto! It's tinman - you stand corrected

As for the issue, I just talked with T-Mobile and they said it is widespread and sporadic and still awaiting feedback from RIM. This was TIER 3 support at TMobile!

Interesting as we've heard nothing from T-Mobile and I am on their automated outages mailing list!

Got a ticket number?

Until then, it's just some man behind the curtain pulling strings.

That is odd!
By the way, do you have a link or someway to get on that list? For some reason I have had a lot of issues as of late and would like to keep informed myself NJ

I've had a ticket for the last 2 days now with TIER 3. They are "working on it" and will get me a call back.

OK, well, your issue is not the same as this original poster here... two different matters.

I've seen you've had issues for a couple of days, pretty crazy they can't get it straight.

And BES is down also for you as well as BIS?

All I can do is make calls and txt. I just got off the phone with RIM and TMobile (this is funny), T-Mobile never provisioned BIS, only BES, for my account (how'd that happen). But even after they fixed that it still won't work. The Storm use to hold EDGE or GPRS forever. Now, it will start off as EDGE and then move to edge after 30 seconds and not receive a signal. T-Mobile cannot figure it out and I have never had this issue with them. I had a Storm previously on the network for about 8 months, never had an issue. Then I sold my old storm since my employer told me I needed to have a WinMo device, until they got BES; so then I bought another storm new, worked great for about 3 weeks and now this!

Odd. You have any thoughts on this one?

Yea, for the Storm on Tmo, that's a whole different ball of wax. See my thread in the 9500 section about using a Storm on Tmobile.

For this outage, let's not get things mixed up... so your whole entire BES is down, for two days? How many users?

Hold up...

BES is up and running,

But my data connection with T-Mobile is down,

So since I have no data, I cannot access my BES. So it is a T-Mobile issue, not BES issue.

OK, good. I was reading that ^^ for exactly how it was written.

According to your decscription here:

I am almost certain your issue going to be related to your own provisioning of the service books and browser per the Sticky Thread mentioned before.

The provisioning then, my service books were resent from T-Mobile and the service books for BES (from The Message Center) cannot be sent until I have data. How can I ensure that these folks are doing it right? I think that is the problem, TMo is not provisioning stuff out right for data, which in turn prevents TMC from provisioning their Sync service book back to my Storm.

It's a mess !!!!!

Read the Sticky... have you loaded the generic Service Books for Tmobile, manually, as the Sticky instructs?

And , I think we're way off-topic for this thread.

Thanks and I think we are on thread. RIM / T-Mobile might have or are pushing something out as well! I will check the Sticky and do that!

ok. But I am really telling you it's not a RIM service outage problem in your area.
And that is what this thread is about.

I understand. And for the record, RIM said there WAS an outage in my area. I talked directly to them on this. So unless I and the TMo rep didnt hear right, we had a data outage in our area here in the Wichita, KS area!

Wow, for two days in Wichita KS only?

See the RIM servers are not located in specific areas like that, and normally an outage with RIM actually involves a much more widespread area and multiple carriers.

But if you got a ticket number...

I never said that it is just specific to here in Wichita,KS, but within my situation (hence the title of the thread). Some folks said SE US, I am in the midwest, so anything is possible - that's what I am saying! At any rate, it will get figured out one way or the other, the outage issues that is. Hopefully it won't be nothing like the blackout a couple of years or so ago (forget the actual dates but up until that point RIM had a good track record with their end user base. I think it had to do with google and new version of BIS or something).

I hate to keep bursting your bubble, but yes, you did say RIM said it was data outage in your area.

No one else is reporting it but you. More than one person would know and be screaming at the TOP of their lungs by now, after two days. Really.

cmccoy... I am not doubting you, it's very possible.

But, I have been through and am familiar with many RIM outages. I just am.
If this were very widespread you would see dozens of posts in this thread of people updating and verifying the outage and their status (see similar cases below).

So, the outage you are experiencing is very localized, maybe only to you and people in the DOJ. I can assure you that if it was even particular to Atlanta only, it would be posted here. I've already asked three friends in ATL and all of them are up.

I guess you know all and best, even though others below/above in the thread and RIM themselves have told me directly that they are also having sporadic issues as well. You know it could be possible that there is an issue out there. But if you and your friends say there is not, then I guess I feel good about it. Now if I could just get my blackberry to work, hmmm.

Oh don't be a smart alek. I don't think I know all and best. I think what I am doing is explaining what is normal during a normal outage and letting the user decide.

In your case, on your Storm on Tmobile, I do think I know what is happening, I've seen it way too often, also. It's your decision to listen or not.

I could repeatedly respond to this thread with my replies, but the bottom line is I listened, tried your fix and it is still occuring. So I can be an idiot and keep doing your things 4 or 5 times or concede that maybe something else is going on since I cannot hold a data connection for longer than 15 to 30 seconds.

As for my stance, I never doubted your help. But when RIM tells me they know there is an issue in MY AREA, then there is a problem. It may not have dawned on folks, but I have a Storm on T-Mobile - maybe it is device specific. The Storm was not made to run on T-Mobile directly.

In the past I had issues with the Bold and Service Books as well. JS posts fixed the bold, but the Storm, it did not.

As for my decision to listen or not, I listened to you, did what you asked and it did not work. What would you do if you were me at this point? Let me hear you talk again so I can listen!

My work is finished here.

Keep waiting on Tmobile to fix their problem.

Two days so far, and you're the only one out reporting it.

Good luck.

Wow! Much respect!

For others reading this post, when you have problems, keep them to yourself. There are many other boards out there that can be of "help" and "assistance". Good luck to you!
