Default Bis Outage? Need Help - 09-18-2009, 12:31 PM

Hi there,

MY bold was working fine, all of a sudden today I see where it usually says 3G it went to "edge", then to "SOS". I didnt call Rogers and change anything at all. Seems its not receiving from the blackberry servers. What can i do? I have done numerous battery pull and scanned for available networks but nothing. And to add, im in an area that gets full 3G coverage. Does anyone know if anything went down on RIM's side? Or what I can do other than calling Tech support? I feel ive done everything that tech support would adise me to do so and im at work so cant talk on the phone..
Thanks in advance!

Could be a local tower issue or carrier issue, but I've seen no other reports (yet).

I would definitely call your carrier with the issue to report it.

They might have knowledge of something.

Meanwhile, again, do a powered ON battery pull, remove and replace the SIM card too, replace battery, yadda yadda, you know.

I've had the SOS for no reason a couple times and reinserting the SIM solved it.

Actually figured it out, ROgers is currently updating HSDPA network so the workaround for now is to swtich to 2G until 3G is back up

That SOS you are receiving is probably from the new Bell 3g gsm network. Bell has quietly built its HSDPA network in record time so as to be up and running in time for the 2010 Olympics. In many marginal Rogers 3g areas, Bell has a stronger gsm 3g signal. Rogers better watch out. Bell is about to surpass Rogers on HSDPA coverage.
