Default New to BB and desperate for vista help with DM installation - 10-31-2007, 06:07 AM

Dear community, I am desperately trying to install the desktop manager software (as this is a key feature for my use of the BB (8310)) but cannot install it on my new Vista machine.

I have just got a new laptop from Alienware (no bloatware installed) with Vista home premium, but everytime I try and install the software (4.2.sp2) it gets right to the very very end then says:-

Error 1935. An error occured during the installation of assembly component {98CB24AD-52FB-DB5F-A01F-c8B3B9A1E18E}.
HRESULT: 0x8007054F.

I have tried about 20 times so far...

I have rebooted with all start up programmes off, all Mcaffee protection off, and still have the same error.

Any ideas anyone????

Thanks in advance

p.s. I'm not computer whizz, so any suggestions may need an idiots guide

I don't use Vista, and have no idea, but since you are out of ideas I offer this stab in the dark for what it's worth: Some time ago I read a comment that using install as adminstrator makes all the difference in the world, or something like that......So, when you install, do you have options, and have you tried that?

Actually, I hink what Aiharkness was referring to is that you should right mouse click on the Desktop Manager installation executable, and select

Run as Administrator

And see if that works.

Yes. Here may be the thread I remember.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-software/77826-desktop-manager-installation-problem.html

Here is another that may be helpful.

From search, looks like this path has been well traveled.

Hi, tried last night running as administrator - even bought and run a registry cleaner, still get the same error. If no-one knows how to fix it here, can anyone point me to who should be able to sort this for me - is it blackberry themselves, or is it my network vodafone?

I wouldn't expect the carrier to be much help, rhaley, but you could certainly try. I don't know about your carrier, but with mine you say blackberry when the computer first answers the phone and you are forwarded to a blackberry csr. Otherwise, I think user forums are your best bet, and also google searches.

By the way, you do not have the blackberry connected to the computer when you run the DM installer, right?
