Default new user (a bit baffled)

Love my new BB Pearl. Am divorcing myself from being able to sync at work even (since they will not support it), but I am content to sync at home.

BIG QUESTION:

I've never been a big fan of OUTLOOK, and I need a calendar/contacts program for my Windows XP laptop at home that can sync to my lovely new Pearl.

I've got the BB Desktop loaded, but it's more of a conduit, yes? I was able to import my old Palm data, but how to manage it on my laptop in an ongoing way?

My old Palm Desktop also provided an interface for updating calendar/contacts.

I perceive I need to pick a new calendar/contacts program that operates locally. Any suggestions for a Windows user wanting to avoid Outlook? I'm also not fond of any of the web-based ones. (So suspicious, Lisa!)

Help, help!!??!!

All best,

Lisa

you do not have to use outlook. Many other third parties offer PIM applications that would just download then you would set up the sync via Desktop Manager. A couple are Google and yahoo

For what you can do with desktop manager, connect your blackberry, launch sync, navigate into the configuration options, and look at the selection of PIM applications. That is what you have to choose from. Outlook Express, a freebee probably on your laptop already, is one of them, but it doesn't have calendar.
