Can a Blackberry or any smartphone be used without ATT, Verizon, Sprint, etc?

Can it be used for email, browsing, & texting without subscribing to any of these phone services?

I am looking for a specific, straight-forward answer that no one seems to know.

I want to get a Blackberry or smartphone just for email, browsing, & texting.

I have a cell phone and want to keep it for phone calls.

Please help me!!!!

The only option is a wifi blackberry but all you can do is browse the web using wifi. No push email, etc. However, they will work even with no sim card inserted.

you can just activate a blackberry data plan on a second line for any of those carriers, voice is not required.
