pearl is disappointing me!!!

Help,
I have an at&t blackberry pearl 8110, brand new.
I also have a brand new mac book pro.
Two major downers:
FIRST: I cannot download any themes
(tried going online via blackberry, via computer, etc,
tried at&t site but there ain't no themes!!!!)

SECOND: my phone keeps saying "Media card is not presently inserted" when a brand new media card is inserted.

Jeez it is as if I'm cursed!
Can anyone help me?
At&t did not
neither did the mac store genius bar.
surely these basics can't be this hard.

1. On your BB go to http://mobile.blackberry.com

2. Are you sure you inserted the media card properly? It doesn't go in the same as the sim card.

Make sure you download and install the proper application to do it. And then make sure you placed the memory card on proper position.
