Default Backup/ Restore baptism gone bad - 11-01-2009, 10:01 PM

Hello all

Looking for direction here as a newbie.
Phone is: 8310
OS: 4.2.2.170
Platform: 2.5.0.30
Be advised my first bb was different version; I suspect more recent.

Did a complete backup on 10/27/2009 normal maintenance but the phone seemed like it was developing some issues (couldn't install bb maps, etc)

Sometime last night the thing crashed and I got what seems like the blinking red light of death. Battery pulls/ USB connect did nothing to power it up.

Swapped SIM with current phone (same model). Tried to restore from last backup but lost address book and bodies of most emails "application: multipart/ unknown".

Have other issues like message handling default service ( I check 4 different email accounts on the phone). Don't have my cursor anymore, either.

Lost the service book for setup wizard that lets me add/ edit another email account. The list goes on. I hope the backup file isn't corrupted but I don't know how to check it...

Update

Needed to update OS to 4.5; second bb was 4.2.

Updated phone, attempted restore again which actually worked xcept for setting service books for the email accounts for which I had icons which needed to be pushed by ATT.

ATT tech support was very helpful, for what it's worth. Backup phone is now a complete clone with all but the individual mailbox emails. Since the dump file had all 4 mailbox records and IT was intact, I left well enough alone. I was amazed how different the two devices were even though they are the same model.

I am sure I'll be back, thanks for letting me visit for a while.
