Default Why publish your PIN? - 04-28-2006, 06:50 PM

nOOb here...so forgive me in advance. Why do people publish their pin? I'm not too sure what it means. Any direction to a thread on this or a quick answer would be appreciated.

Thanks
kstew

It is for government registration. They require that all BB's be registered on the government list of National and International users.

I got that...but why put it in your auto-signature on the forums? Is there any benefit or significance to it?

For example, I'm reading the forums.. someone posts on how to do something, but i might have a question about something in particular. I can just PIN 'em real quick and ask my question

I'm real new to BB. I just got a 7290 a few days ago and am just trying to get used to it. I understand pins as they relate to CCs and debit cards but not this.

Who assigns your pin? where do you get one? What if you don't get one?
Ok, Duh, I just answered my own Qs by playing with the BB a little more. Disregard dumb Qs. There is so much to take in with these BBs.

PIN's are not like CC pins. They are Identification numbers for your BB. everyone is different.

They can be used for a variety of things, but the most common use is PIN messenging

Also, posting a PIN in not as bad as posting an email address. PIN messages can only be sent from BlackBerry or BlackBerry connect devices. Its not like someone can harvest the PIN numbers and start sending out SPAM to everyone. At least not yet.
