Question Blackberry Locked or Not ?

Hello Everyone... I'm figs, (new guy)
ok, lets get it done..
Im not sure where im surposed to post this, but its here now, lol
Anyway, my question is:

"Is My Blackberry Locked?"
I got it of a freind, for free belive it or not, cuz his had a new one.. I've got a blackberry 7230 and on the bottom its got 'Vodafone' so i guess its on that, lol... Anyway, i turn it on and it comes up with the following message... "Handheld is Locked" It then gives me 3 options; Unlock, Emrg. Call, or Cancle..
Does it mean that my friend has just put a password on, or does it mean that my 'berry' is locked and that i need to get it seen to so that i can us it again?

Yes, that means your friend entered a password on the BlackBerry. Call your friend and have him enter the password, then go to Options > Security and either change the password or turn it off all together.

Nice one Fisher...

But, this might Change things, ive taken the battery out, ive pressed the reset and restarted the Berry, but its still 'locked', also, when it says 'password' i only have 10 attempts... this isn't normal.. Is it ?

Couple of extra questions
1. How does a blackberry become 'Locked' anyway ?
2. Where would i go to get it un-locked to all networks Ect.?

Yes that is normal.

See d_fisher's reply for an answer to your first extra question, if you talking about how the device becomes password locked. If you are talking about Network locking, that is done when the device is manufactured for a specific carrier.

For the second extra question try:
