HI,

I am fairly new about this bb phone and i just purchased one about a month ago but i also have a holster but every time i take the phone out of the holster it dosent light up and i went to setting to see if i could change it but it does not work. The holster i purchased was from a company called speck products it is this new kind of holster that has rubber, so you have a nice feel about the phone and dosent slip out of your hands when in use but anywho the case has a metal ring or dot i should say and it says that it is soppose to light up the phone when u take it out of the case but it dosent do that and i am wondering why?

In order for the phone to "wake up" upon removing from holster the holster must have the "sleeper magnet" in it. No magnet, no sleep/wake. Also, the in holster and out of holster profile settings won't work either.

What kind of BB do you have? For the 8700 and the 8100 I, personally, recommend the leather, swivel clip, holsters offered at Official RIM BlackBerry Accessories Store - Mobile phone accessory,Batteries,Headsets,Chargers,Cases,Holste rs,Handsfree,travel gear,Cell Phone,7510,7280,7230,7750,6710,7210. That's what I use and have had very good luck. There are many others out there and everyone has a different opinion.

I just bought a blackberry branded leather swivel holster for my Blackberry 7280. I have used it for 2 days and my battery keeps draining. I ran a series of tests on it and found that my blackberry does not behave the same way it does when it is in the plastic holster that came with the machine.

When it is in the plastic holster the screen shuts off and even if you accidentally hit the roller wheel the screen still stays off while in the plastic holster. When I put it in the leather holster and accidentally hit the roller wheel the screen lights up.

I suspect that even though the leather holster is blackberry branded and approved it was not manufactured correctly and is missing the magnet that causes the machine to sleep.

I have ensured that I am putting the blackberry into the leather holder correctly so it is not a case of user error. I have also carefully observed how the blackberry behaves in the plastic vs. the leather holster.

I am very disappointed with my purchase and will be returning the leather holster. RIM should be made aware of this situation because the leather holsters are obviously defective and RIM probably won't want their name associated with them.

Has anybody else experienced these problems with the leather holster?

I'm with the 2nd poster about using the OEM RIM cases I have had 2 versions (1 with the full flap top and the second with just the little lip over) and love em both and they work well and offer protection to the rear side of the phone something that the launcher doesn't.

Speaking of holsters....
I see on the blackberry website that new cases for the pearl are going to be released in few days. Should I be buying accessories OEM or is there a 3rd party someone can recommend?

I purchased my holster from the RIM site. It's yellow and black neoprene with a caribiner clip rather than a typical belt clip. I'll try to post the link.................
