Default Verizon Tether Fee - 01-13-2007, 11:01 PM

I would like to thank you all for making this forum so awesome, I've found so much info here before now becoming a member.

I have a quick newbie question: I just got my first BB, a company issued one. I was told that we have unlimited minutes and data. I read about the $15 "tether fee" that Verizon charges for using the BB to access the internet via EV-DO. I've also learned here on the forums how to "activate" that service on my BB by calling Verizon's service number and "activating" the service.

But I've actually already used Verizon provided software to tether my laptop and surfed the web (Never did the activation process). Do this mean the tether fee is already paid (and the tether service is available) for in the plan my company got or did I automatically incur the extra $15 for them?

You can't automatically incur the fee. The service has to be activated by Customer Service before you can tether. You have to use the VZAccess software from what I remember from my days with Verizon. Your campany may already have that fee paid for, just ask someone at work.

What exactly is tethering? I've heard this term before but do not know what it is.. I believe it has something to do with mobile internet data though

oh yeah and welcome to the forums!
