Angry How to connect BlackBerry 8700g to the net - 01-24-2007, 05:50 AM

Hi everybody,

I'm a new user and I'm searching the information concerning my problem with brand new Blackberry 8700g.

I live in Czech Republic. We have 3 mobile providers - O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone. O2 and T-Mobile offer the standard Blackberry services, Vodafone has the standard data services with PUSH email etc. only. Of ourse, I have Vodafone number. I bought my Blackberry only for checking mails and surfing the web sometimes and so no enterprise services are needed. I never found the information it doesnt work with Vodafone.

When I connected the Blackberry to the Vodsfone network, calls and SMS worked fine. But no data services. The Blackberry shows in the right up corner I've access to the EDGE. It seems there is a configuration missing in the device what I can not do manually.

Could someone help me and let me know if:
1) I can use Blackberry, check the emails and web-browser without BIS or any official Blackberry support from my provider (Vodafone staff seems they have never heard about such a thing as Blackberry).
2) How to get working data configuration to my device?
3) Do I need the third party email clients etc.?

Thanx and cheers,

Voyta

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8703e/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/105)

I am uncertain about the European markets but you prob need a BB data plan in order to access. Looking on the Vodafone website it shows a Blackberry Connect plan and a Blackberry from Vodafone plan. On 02 Czech it shows a plan called O2 Email Nonstop for unlimited data. Hope that helps.

BlackBerry is special to other devices. When running a BB on a Provider you need to tell them that you have a BB device as they need to get it connected to the RIM Server which micht cause add. cost. Your Device PIN (BB number not the SIM PIN) is always directly connected to a RIM Server. So if they want to provide you Mail Push Service like in Germany (BlackBerry Internet Service) they need to know that PIN as it will be fwded via those RIM Servers.

Ok, so there is no possibility how to use full BB functionality of my device if the provider (Vodafone) does not offer something like BB plan, right? Or is there a possibility how to get connected to the third party RIM server?

That is correct. The carrier must offer a BlackBerry Data Plan. Without it all you have is voice and SMS text.
