Question New 7290 User without dataplan

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

I have just purchased an unlocked 7290 from e-bay and am now concerned that I have jumped too quickly.
I was originally looking at a treo and have been a palm user for years. I decided to make the change as many people told me that the BB's are great for mobile email, phone and PDA all in one. The price of a 7290 was also a lot less than a treo.

Well here's what I thought I could do - simply put in my existing sim card and away we go. Now after reading some threads I am beginning to think that I will not be able to use my POP email and browse the web on a BB without subscribing to a dataplan with a carrier in my country (Australia).

Can anyway enlighten me or will I be selling my BB back on e-bay???

Welcome to BB Forums.

Without a BlackBerry Data Plan all you will have is voice and SMS text. That's it.

So there is no way of configuring a BB to receive POP email using GPRS?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Welcome to the Forums! The BB plan is well worth the investment. With it you will be able to explore all the device has to offer. Prepare yourself for a more stable platform than Palm. I had both the 600 and 650. You won't be dissapointed.
