Notification LED Red Light Works Sometimes

On the 8703e, how come the notification LED red light only lights up sometimes to apprise me that incoming mail has arrived? This evening mail came in and it was still flashing green and not red. Sometimes it works properly and other times it just has a mind of its own.

Whatever info that you could share, would be most appreciated.

It stops blinking after some set period of time which you can not change... It is not a constant reminder.

Somewhere between 10 and 20 mins. I've never timed it, though.
