I am new to the Blackberry fraternity. Having decided to proceed cautiously, I purchased a BB 7290 on eBay. It arrived without manuals, nevertheless I downloaded the manuals but they do not help.

My problem:

On installing the battery, a red light comes on and goes off then a box appears on the display with 2 lines as follows: " TCU Exception"
" Reset"
the Reset line is highlighted.

Even after installing the SIMM card and charging the battery, this message remains. I took the battery out a number of times and replace it but the message returns after a few a couple of seconds.

It doesn't speak specifically to your error but you may need to wipe the device and I believe the instructions are in the document. You will probably need to perform the following steps in the event you can't connect to the device:

Good advice from Jeremy. Reload the OS as described in his second link. You'll need to install the Desktop Manager and the latest OS for the 7290 to your PC first, though.
