Default Probs for this noob from PA... - 08-16-2007, 10:18 AM

I just bought a 7290 off Ebay because I wanted to consolidate my Palm Tungsten W and my cell phone into one item (thus the 7290 for the bluetooth capability), and finally shed at least one item from my "batman utility belt".

Much to my dismay, I've found that you need a BIS and also purchase a "data plan" from Cingular in order to be able to use the browser to download programs.

Now, the picture/theme/ringtone issue isn't a great setback for me (though I'd like to add a theme if I could), but I primarily used my Palm for the mobipocket ebook reader and also the "to-do" list. I don't see a "to-do" list in the menu and I KNOW that I have to install mobipocket. The problem is that, without a "data plan", I won't be able to install ANY programs for it, so it will just be another phone, which I do NOT need. Mobipocket's website is down for maintenance atm, so I don't know if I could somehow use what seems to be a useless BB data cable to install Mobipocket, but I was wondering if anyone could provide me with a few sites that have programs that I CAN install on my home PC and then sync them with the BB? If not, then it'll be back to Ebay with it... :(

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

to do list = Tasks. There are other third party applications as well, To Do Matrix and Getting Things Done.

If MobiPocket has a PC desktop download, you could install via USB and the Application Loader feature of Desktop Manager. I don't know if they provide the desktop install on their site.

You can find multitudes of programs both OTA and PC installed at the FAQ site (see link in my sig) as well as the Aftermarket Software section of this forum.

The BB is made to have a Data Plan. Wireless Push email is what it was built for and is still its primary purpose, even if you intend not to use that main feature. Without the Data Plan, you will not have a good experience.

Thanks for the reply...now that I know I can use the 'tasks' program, and if I can get Mobipocket to install, then that is EXACTLY what I was hoping to do...have the benefits of my Palm and my phone in one device...therefore I WILL have a good experience, but thanks for caring and thanks for the info!

sternrulez, I like the positive attitude. But for a not just good but a blow-your-mind experience, here is hoping you can eventually get a blackberry data plan. And going one better, may you soon upgrade to at least the 8700 series blackberry.

Welcome to the group!

Well, considering that we're already paying $100+/month for our cells, the extra expense of a data plan isn't feasible atm, although I WOULD like to someday get one. Also, I intended to get an 8700c originally, but was consistantly outbid on them, so that is ALSO a someday...lol
