STAR PARTS CATALOG, 1973 EDITION
Hackensack, New Jersey: Star Graphic Systems Inc., 1973; with 221 pages + [8] un-numbered pages at the back of the catalog devoted to introducing Star\'s customers to computer typesetting equipment. Page [1] of this section speaks of the computerized equipment being \"new\" to Star\'s line so I assume this has to be a VERY EARLY introduction to computer typesetting - which eventually did away with Star\'s core market for Linotype and Ludlow parts.
Still, 95% of this catalog is devoted to Linotype parts -OFTEN improved by Star over the original Mergenthaler factory Linotype Parts + Star\'s own line of accessories (e.g. linotype mat repair machine, as seen in one of the scans above) which Mergenthaler Linotype Company never offered!
Profusely illustrated with a detailed index. I DID NOT NOTE ANY PRICES and assume they were quoted at the time parts were ordered.
All of the many pages showing Linotype parts and mechanisms are extremely detailed meaning that this book would be helpful in taking a Linotype machine apart and then putting it back together again,
Lots of print shop smudging from use; however the catalog is quite sound and still tightly bound. There is a 2\" abrasion at the top of the backstrip. Good only in appearance but solid & sound condition otherwise. No loose, torn or missing pages.
