These toroid transformers are New Old Stock and have an Outside Diameter of 1.72 inches, an Inside Diameter of 0.635 inches and a thickness of 0.57 inches. These measurements suggest their ferrite core has an Outside Diameter of 1.4 inches, an Inside Diameter of 0.9 inches and a thickness of 0.25 inches.

These transformers have 11 windings. There are wire labels on the lead wires to show which windings are which. The first six windings have one wire label wrapped around both ends of the winding, two leads per label. After that, the remaining 5 windings have a different wire label on each individual wire end, so that the phase can be known without testing each winding when connecting it. The measured inductance for each winding is as follows:

Winding 1 – wire pair for label 1 – 134 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 2 – wire pair for label 2 – 134 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 3 – wire pair for label 3 – 234 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 4 – wire pair for label 4 – 234 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 5 – wire pair for label 5 – 556 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 6 – wire pair for label 6 – 556 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 7 – wire for labels 7 & 8 – 12.7 mHy (AWG27)

Winding 8 – wire for labels 9 & 10 – 12.7 mHy (AWG27)

Winding 9 – wire for labels 11 & 12 – 0.38 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 10 – wire for labels 13 & 14 – 0.43 mHy (AWG29)

Winding 11 – wire for labels 15 & 16 – 0.62 mHy (AWG29)

Since windings 7 and 8 are AWG 27 and all the rest are AWG 29, it makes sense to assume that 7 and 8 were the primary windings in an inverting DC to DC power supply.

These transformers have a wide frequency bandwidth, and applications in the audio range are many. With so many windings, the impedance matching possibilities are great. This applies for crystal radio sets where you want a high-ratio output transformer to drive modern low-impedance earphones. By hooking windings 1 through 6 in series, you can build a really high ratio output transformer that won’t load down your crystal detector. Then you could use windings 7 and 8 in series (or parallel) to drive a pair of 40 Ohm ear buds. Experiment!How you use them is limited by your imagination.

These are industrial surplus and are guaranteed to be just as described. They have been stored in plastic bags since they were manufactured.
