Partial spool of 12K untwisted carbon fiber IM-7 Hercules Magnamite brand IM-7 is Intermediate Modulus type fiber being stiffer than steel by 150% and stronger that high strength steel by about 300% while the material weight is 1/5 of steel.
The spool weight is 1 3/4 lbs of 12k fiber (12,000 filiments per strand) or tow with thousands of feet of tow on this partial spool. The fibers are bound together with sizing that is resin compatible. Commercial carbon fiber retails for $30 to $100 per lb. in spool tow form and varies according to grade and tow size with high modulus and lower filament count being priced higher since they are more expensive to manufacture.
