The MVP Control Panel, the nerve center of the System, allows the user to send commands to the Switching
Modules that activate specified relays.
The Switching Modules, the muscles of the System, contain either one or two sets of eight relays. Each relay
is provided with terminals for connecting input and/or output signals. Some Modules also have terminals for
the connection of 12V turn-on (trigger) for Autosound components if required. Switching Modules may be
connected serially in a Chain to provide switching for more components in groups of eight. (For example, a
Front Speaker group with 12 Speaker pairs would require two Modules to form the Chain.) Should a
component require more connection points (e.g. multi-channel outputs) than a particular Switching Module
offers, additional Switching Modules can be added and assigned the same selection number.
TheSwitching Modules, which provide the connection points for the audio/videoPassive Switching
All MTi switching products are passive switching systems, which do not affect in any way the audio/video
signal that is being switched. This ensures that any audio or video component being demonstrated with one
of our systems exhibits its true range of capability.
Switching Capacity
The MVP Control Panel can connect up to 16 separate Chains of Switching Modules, allowing you to
demonstrate 16 different types of components together within one System. Each Chain can switch up to 99
Components – e.g. 99 Decks, 99 Sub Amps, 99 Rear Speakers.
By The Numbers
The microprocessors that control the Matrix System
a number. The Module number is like the street address of an apartment building, and the Position number
is like an apartment number in that building. These numbers allow the MVP Control Panel to locate and
identify each component in the System. They are assigned during installation by setting DIP switches
located on each Switching Module.

Bypass
The first Position (A Position) of the first (-1) Module in a Chain can be used as a bypass to allow the Bus a
route to pass a signal through a Chain that has no components selected (generally used for processor-type
components, such as Amplifiers and Equalizers). Although each Module can switch up to eight components,
the first Module in a Chain that has a bypass would switch only seven.
Switching for All Applications
Because audio/video components differ in their input/output requirements, MTi manufactures a number of
different Switching Modules, each with a different configuration of input/output capabilities. (See Figure 20,
page 39, for a complete listing.) Each Module contains one or two sets of eight component connection
Positions, plus input/output Bus connections. Some Modules switch only low-level signals, some only high,
and some have sets of low- and high-level connectors on the same Module. The Matrix
includes Switching Modules with various other connectors.
