The model 16 Tel-Ohmiketester was introduced in late 1940. Thismodel was an improvement over the original TO-1 in that it has a meter as well as a 6E5 eye tube. The eye tube indicator opens when the correctcapacitance or resistance is dialed in with the main dial. The meter indicates the amount of leakage or current draw for an electrolytic.
This unit, when rebuilt withnew internal capacitors and replaced out of spec resistors, will test paper andmica caps for leakage and, more importantly, can test electrolytic capacitorsat their rated working voltage. Moderncapacitor meters/testers can test capacitance values but only with a very small voltageapplied which tells you almost nothing of whether or not an old, high voltage,capacitor is any good.
The unit can also be used toreform older capacitors.
This unit is in very nicecosmetic shape and comes from a Ham Estate in Arizona. As the photos show it appears to be alloriginal inside and has never been messed with.It almost surely will need to be recapped and have the resistors checkedbefore using. As such, I am listing itfor parts or restoration as it has NOT been tested. The tester is missing its original leatherhandle but other than that it appears complete and in excellent shape.
