Vintage Briggs & Stratton Engine - Model 23
Item Specifics: This is the classic, medium frame, cast iron Briggs & Stratton engine which I believe is a Model 23, but it is missing the data plate. This is a fair example – everything appears original but there is no air filter and is missing the cylinder shrouding. No attempt was made to run this engine, although compression is good and there is no undue slop or “clunks” in the bearings when the engine is rotated. Condition of magneto and testing of spark at the plug was not attempted. There are a few small dents in the flywheel shroud along with surface rust in spots. Paint is in poor condition and appears totally original. A muffler is included which is the correct part for this engine, but has been re-aimed by some pipe elbows. Carburetor appears good and all governor linkage and spring are attached.
Judging by the external appearance and good compression, this engine is a good candidate for a full restoration or valuable parts source. I’m sure it will run with a minimum of work. Engine sale is intended for local pickup. Crating and shipping costs will be extra, paid for by the purchaser.
