Wt 47 lb, 3.5" Jaws, Opens to 5-3/4"Nice, vintage REED swivel mount vise, Made in Erie, PA, USA. Has to be over 100 years old from the earliest Patent date of Dec 24, 1912. Also has a second date of 1914.
This vise is COMPLETE with both the base plate and the large wing nut for tightening the vise. You mount the base to your workbench with a hole in the center. To swivel the vise, loosen the wing nut, turn the vise and then tighten the wing nut. Really neat old vise.
The base plate does show a welded repair, but it looks like it was done by a blacksmith and it is solid. Vise has been painted silver at one time. Vise needs a good cleaning and the screw lubed. Jaws are in great shape, 3.5" wide and the vise opens to about 5-3/4". It's heavy, weighing in at over 47 lbs. Looks like it can be mounted on a table up to 3-1/2" thick, maybe even a little more.
Really versatile, heavy duty, antique, REED #31 vise. Not many of these around any more. See photos. No other repairs that I can find, other than the base plate and has a nice action.
