Vintage Steel Industrial Card Gages for Woolen Carding Machinery Steampunk Art:
$49.99

This sale is for a Vintage Antique lot ofIndustrial Textile Manufacturing Companies Gages. These were used to properly space rollers on industrial textile machines for card clothing manufacturers. They are all metal. Most have markings on them saying what Manufacturer they were from:

Howard Brothers Manufacturing Co Auburn MA USA

Ashworth Bros. Inc Card Clothing Fall River, Mass USA

Davis & Furber Machine Co

From researching these companies on the internet most were started in the late 1800\'s into the 1900\'s.

**Here is an excerpt from a 1955 textbook about Carding Practices by John K Stearns:

\'The card gage is simply astrip of steel about 1 inch wide and 8 inch long. It has a number stamped on it which indicates its thickness, the number being the same as that of the card clothing wire of a diameter equal to the thicknessof the gage. For example, the thickness of a No 30 gage is the same as the diameter of a No 30 wire. Remember the higher the number the thinner the gage will be. Insert the correct gage between the cylinder and the worker and make the setting. Then go to the other sideof the card and make the setting there. Set the worker good and tight against the gage.\' ****

I am not going to list them all. Some don\'t have any markings at all but they were all together as a set. Some were wrapped in a non corrosive paper that I sliced the tape on so I could open them and take the pictures. This paper has some white effervescence on it and rust from the shims. Some other ones came in another wrapped paper thathas an actual shipping label on it from Howard Brothers to a company in New Hampshire that made textiles. Most of the shims have some rust and wear from age and use. Most have numbering on them to signify the thickness of the metal. Some have labels on them. Also comes with a leather pouch that reads Davis & Furber which had those shims in it. This case has wear and marks from age and use.

29 in all. items have a basementy smell from age and being stored.
