Since you are strictly Linux, how do you backup your Blackberry or upgrade its' OS?

Ric0chet 02-05-2010 03:11 AM

I kinda cheat there... My BB is on a BES @ work. It updates from the browser on a PC @ work. (not my pc ofc, mine has Linux too) :)

Hi everybody, I've been using Ubuntu since 8.04 and now I am with 10.04 Lucid Lynx! 8-)
Linux is the best OS, and can't wait for Maverick Meerkat in October!

Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 for my laptop and Ubuntu Studio (can't recall version) for my studio computers.

Just wanted to update and say I'm using Fedora 13 x64 and very happy with it.

The only time I use windows is via virtual machine (for BB updates, tech support for clients/family).
I've found that VMWare Player is the ONLY VM so far that will consistently allow me to update my BB. All the others (QEMU, VirtualBox non-OSE) always "release" the USB connection to the BB at some point, when VMW player does not unless I specifically take action to do so.

Mepis 8. It syncs KOrganizer and my BoldBerry. Can back up the BoldBerry using Barry Backup. Works really well. Also used Canteras a Debian/Mepis remaster and was able to sync the BoldBerry and KOrganizer with it as well.

Re: What distro are you on?

Currently using Ubuntu 10.04LTS on both desktop and laptop. I think Mint is currently the most popular or it was last time I looked on distro watch. There are a lot of bad reviews about Ubuntu from the linux users at the moment regarding the new Unity desktop which a lot of people don't like.

In the latest release you can still switch between unity and gnome but apparently on the next LTS it will be unity only. Looking how much Ubuntu has fell from grace lately I think they may have to re-think that one
