Which BlackBerry should I buy?

I'm wondering if someone could advise me on upgrading my Blackberry!

I currently have a BlackBerry Curve 8530. I quite like it, but I would like to upgrade to something that is faster and better supported, i.e. OS 7.1 versus OS 5.

I have checked out the BlackBerry 10 phones, and while I think it's a great OS and interface and I was quite impressed by how well the touch interface was designed, I still prefer the classic BlackBerries and their interface.

I was thinking of getting a Bold 9900, but I wonder if there is any newer BlackBerry 7 phone with the Media and Convenience Buttons that my current BB has (they are very convenient!) I do use it as my music player (the only portable player I've ever seen that supports MP3 AND MIDI, and I hear the newer ones support OGG Vorbis as well!)

If the BB 7 phones have ditched these invaluable buttons, is it possible to use those fancy earbuds that have those media controls and 3-4 pole jacks on them like the iPhone has?

Thanks,
Thomas

The 9900 series were the latest of the BBOS models as far as I know. However, BlackBerry will be releasing a BB10 model similar to 9900,

I'm not really up to speed on earbuds. See what others say.

Thanks for your reply, but I found the answer here:
store.shopblackberry.com/store/bbrryus/en_CA/pd/productID.281234900/categoryID.61936200/parentCategoryID.61654700
That shows compatibility with that sort of earbuds, but there is also a video of them found on YouTube.

The 9720 exists, and is much newer than the 9900, but it doesn't have nearly the specs that the 9900 has.

If you insist on a BBOS device, the Bold 9900 is your best choice.

9900 is the best Legacy device

Best BB10 device is Z30 IMO, then Z10, Q10, Z3, Q5

But the Passport and Classic are coming and who knows what else on the 24th

Z10 is not bad but takes time to get used to the touch screen and no buttons. the Classic may be a good choice if you want a keyboard. I'm leaning to it myself when it becomes available in ATT

Re: Which BlackBerry should I buy?

Z10, Z30, Q10 work well. I have had them and with my old eyes I went with Passport.

I didn't care for Q10 screen size after using the Z10.
I went with Z30 since it had a bigger screen.
I went with Passport after for its wide screen and I missed the keyboard a lil bit.

Classic is good all around between Passport and Q10 screen size along with the belt of buttons and trackpad is nice.

Whatever you do, do NOT get a BB 9720. It worked for 9 months to a year, then since then has been a total waste of time: can't use in daylight because the trackpad reacts and the screen goes mental. Can't use for more than a day without it randomly rebooting or reporting battery too low for radio use with 20% remaining. You then try all of the time-consuming "fixes" on the forums to cure it and it starts all over again.

No wonder RIM went bust producing handsets like this. A truly awful BlackBerry, so much so that I'm seriously considering reverting to my old GPRS-only Curve 8520!
