3G Question
 

Hey guys, I just have a quick question...

I have a regular voice plan and then added the email and BBM, so no actual data.


The 9700 I got brand new, and i charged fully yesterday and it seems the battery is already at 55% (I did use it a lot to put in contacts, and fix up options etc, but it is not typical of the BB...)

I had my wireless turned on the whole time on BB though until right now where I turned it off (That might add to quick battery loss I take..)

My question is regarding 3G, since I have no data, should i put the BB to be on 2G? Do I have any benefits of using 3G, or is it just wasting my battery?

I also turned off in the option under mobile network "data services off while roaming" so i dont get any extra billing?

3G (HSDPA/HSUPA) allows the simultaneous transmission of data and voice, and data throughput is much higher than 2G (GPRS). While you don't have a network data plan, you're subscribed to BIS services, email and BBM, which IS 'data'. Basically using 2G won't allow you to BBM or email while in a call, and using 2G will slow down the downloading and sending of large emails somewhat (those with large images or attachments).

Hmm interesting, so technically it is best if I do make use of 3G...

I won't get charged anything extra I hope, correct?

I guess what was taking my battery was the wifi?

If you have BBM and BB email, you have data.

Keep in mind, with all the new and updated features on phones these days, battery life isn't what it used to be.

Also, when I get an e-mail, with an attachment, say 2 MB...

Downloading that attachment does not cost me anything since it is email, right?

"cost" in money, no.
"cost" in data, yes.
i.e. it will take e.g. 2mb data to download it.

I also got them to reduce texts from 2,500 to 1,000 , from 10$ to 5$ :)


Now I am really happy with my plan.

On AT&T here in the States $5 only gets you 200 messages per month. $15 gets you 1500.

Wow that is crappy lol!
