My "File Free" is extremely low--Storm

My "File Free" is extremely low
I have already gone through having my texts deleted once. Even after a battery pull, my file free only resets to 40k bytes. I have gone through the process of deleting extras languages, etc... but are there any settings that can be changed to increase the amt. of file free?

I have 872.2 MB of free device memory but only 37.5 free application memory, any way to transfer some of this memory? Also, what would be an ideal amount of file free memory to have?

Here is a list of 3rd party applications I currently have installed:
AOL IM
Facebook
Gmail
Google Maps
Google Sync
Google Talk
Jive Talk
Soft Reset
Viigo

Thanks in advance for the help.

37.5MB app memory is nice.

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:15 PM

Then why is my "file free" so low and why is it deleting my texts?

JSanders 12-14-2008 08:18 PM

oh, i didn't notice tht number. only 40KB? Wow.

I guess I am confused if you have 872MB of device memory.

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:25 PM

Yeah, so am I. Under my Options>Memory, it shows:

Application Memory Free Space: 32.4 MB
Device Memory Free Space: 879.2 MB

But in Options> Status I currently have just 34KB File Free

My other settings in options>memory, I have Media Card Support "on", Encryption Mode "none", MTP "on", and Media Storage Mode Support "off".

Should any of these be changed?

JSanders 12-14-2008 08:34 PM

I keep Mass Storage on, for easy access to my media card, but that won't affect the device memory.

Look at options > Status > Menu > Database sizes... what is taking up so much space? What are the top three sizes listed there?

Are you sure you're reading the File Free number correctly?
What's the exact number shown on the screen? Around 34000 or 34000000?

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:40 PM

Total Size: 3100.7K

SMS Messages 5582/2296.1K
MMS Messages 4/566.0K
Address Book: 404/68.5K

I guess its my messages, but I really don't want to delete all my texts (never know when I might need 'em for reference). Suggestions?

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:41 PM

it is currently at 28096560 Bytes free

JSanders 12-14-2008 08:42 PM

~28 MB. Not KB.

That's a lot... it's over 28MB (not 28KB). Nothing to worry about.

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:45 PM

Okay, but it has dropped 25% in the past couple hours. If that is enough file free, then what is causing it to drop so quick?

soupandsandwich 12-14-2008 08:49 PM

28MB is plenty fine.
Take the battery out, put it back in.
Look at File Free and make a note of what it is right after the device comes back on.

Then just pay attention to what applications you have running on the device.
Shouldn't be too hard to figure out which one is leaking memory.

My first guess is Viigo.

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:50 PM

Sorry, but I am pretty new to this. What would be a standard decrease in memory through the day?

NJBlackBerry 12-14-2008 08:52 PM

There is no such thing as a "standard decrease". No one knows (except you) how you are using your applications. One (or more) may be leaking memory. Try removing the battery to see how much is freed up.

bbaler4444 12-14-2008 08:57 PM

Battery pulled....went from 28096560 Bytes free to 41354892.

Is there anyway to tell which applications are currently running and how much memory they are using?

zerog46 12-14-2008 09:02 PM

Menu switch application. Can't tell how much memory it's using.

HarlyFan 12-15-2008 06:59 AM

IT IS VIIGO, I am having the same issue. I tracked it back to Viigo. I am experiencing the same issues.
