Latest OS: 9700 5.0.0.1655/5.0.0.1014 (East Asia + English)

Software For BlackBerry® Bold (TM) 9700 smartphone
This will install to any carrier's 9700 by following the instructions below.

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1655 (East Asia + English)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1655
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.1014
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.177
* File name: 9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1655_PL5.1.0.177_A5.0.0. 1014.ex e

Download the OS here: http://smartphone.nttdocomo.co.jp/ma...5.0.0.1014.exe

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

They have the slowest servers ever.

Willing to try it. I'm running .979 and there are a few bugs I've noticed. Also, my memory is all over the place. Sometimes it's at 113, sometimes it's 94. Luck of the draw.

Thanks for the link. Currently very happy with the beta OS6.
I know that RIM don't post changelogs, but has anybody noticed any new 'stuff' with this released OS?

After a few days, I'm loving this release. Rock solid, fast, and better battery life. I don't regret "downgrading" from the buggy and oversized (for the 9700 anyway) OS 6 releases one bit.

You must delete or uninstall the higher OS from the PC first, at Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > find the OS6 and remove it.

Then, follow the directions above.

so, i keep reading about all kind of problems with the bb...i was wondering is there trully so many problems with the phone, or with the people who actually don't read everything related to their phone.actually, I NEVER HAD A SINGLE problem with my phone.none of those posted in this forum.so actually what's the procentage of phones with/without issues?or it's just people who exeperiencing issues due their non knowledge.i appologise to all who are feeling offended.i didn't mean to do that.

I think you'll find that phone hardware problems are a very low percentage that users have in this forum. And I'm quite confident it's no more than than other manufacturers. Most of the problems here are software related, and that's always going to vary depending on the users experience, what is on the phone, etc. If you've never had a problem related to anything that's been talked about on this forum, I would say that's very rare.

This version is noticibly faster than older ones.
However, my Google Maps voice search no longer works.

Yes. If it's posted at the top of the forum, then it will always be an official release.

how much do i have to wait for the release of OS.6 for bb9700???:cry:
however, i am afraid that it would be too heavy this OS for bb9700.i mean, it's ok for the 9780, but there are few things upgraded on 9780.(memory, processor...)

Only the memory is upgraded to 512 MB and the camera is upgraded to 5 megapixels versus the 9700;s 3.2 camera. The process was NOT upgraded on the 9780 or the Torch 9800, they all use the same 624 MHz., sounds slow, but gets the job done pretty well.
