A lot of RIM outages. :-(
Thank You for the info.

zerog46 05-20-2008 04:31 PM

Most of them seem to be updates though...

Dawg 05-20-2008 04:41 PM

Yeah Scheduled outages are a good thing usually

celeb 05-20-2008 04:44 PM

Unless they fail ;)

Dawg 05-20-2008 04:45 PM

thats why I said usually

fizzleation 05-20-2008 04:46 PM

you'll always take a short outage to improve long term reliability. I have a feeling that with the popularity of blackberrys growing exponentially, RIM is making sure they keep up. Good move.

last summer between june and august there were a couple of during the day saturday "upgrades"

Chaviva 05-23-2008 07:41 AM

NO, not another update. and it couldn't have come at a worst time, 3:00am-7:00am AST, what am I to do for 20 minutes during the outage.

Oh wait, never mind, I'll be sleeping during that time. YES a time when I won't have to work during an update on the RIM rely, so it's not all that bad.

knottyrope 05-23-2008 08:26 AM

:idea:I might stay up and have a beer.8-)
Then pass out so calls cant be heard.

bluejacket 05-23-2008 08:49 AM

This doesn't even affect me, because I'm in the UK, but when they say messages, they mean emails, right? I presume SMS messages go straight through the mobile provider... I never really understand which data goes through BIS and which goes through WAP (or regular internet?!) channels.

ricpac 05-23-2008 11:49 PM

Email and PIN messages go through RIM while SMSs don't. So when there's a RIM outage like this, calls and SMS remain unaffected. Services that use your carrier's APN also aren't affected.

audit 05-24-2008 09:11 AM

We have a few people signed up on the Outages list that used their SMS address. If anyone wants to sign up using their SMS address, just contact me and I'll get er done ;)

zerog46 05-24-2008 11:15 PM

Is the Outage still on for this morning...

ezrunner 05-24-2008 11:17 PM

yessir as far as I know

sowhynot 05-25-2008 08:07 AM

Anyone know if this impacted the ability to connect to the internet? I'm travelling (on the East coast at present) and up until today I've had no problem with connectivity. This morning it took forever to boot from GSM to edge to EDGE. While I'm getting email (albeit delayed) I'm still unable to connect to the internet.

JSanders 05-25-2008 08:53 AM

Wirelessly posted (8310; The Juggernaut)

The actual downtime was only about 20 minutes, ending by 6am Eastern.
I would pull your battery and reboot if all else fails.
