Ordered an HTC Aria

Going to put my iphone on the shelf for a few weeks and try out Android to see what it's all about. I've been curious for a while now, we shall see.

My dad has one and he loves it. He came from a Nokia E71-2, and he's really enjoying the tight Google integration. I myself have an HTC Legend on the way from Expansys, which I think is the handset on which the Aria is based.

I like the HTC handsets.. Since I gave the Droid X away (too big) I may pick up one...

Well, I've been using the Aria for about 2 days now. The iphone isn't looking so shiny anymore. Android does what iOS doesn't. Better integration between contacts, photos and calendar items between other programs and web services. iphone seems to treat everything as a separate application with very little integration. Simple things, like a notification area and being able to better customize alert tones, make Android better then iOS.

Ok, where is Apple better, the antenna debacle aside, the iphone is a better designed device then the HTC. The iphone is simply a work of art as far as construction goes. Applications are another. Everyone makes iphone apps, Android is catching up, but its not there yet. I also wish the Aria was bigger, but ATT seems hell bent on keeping Android second fiddle as long as they control the iphone in the US. I don't care for the Samsung experience and think HTC has the superior interface.

So which device would I rather use, as of right now Android is my pick. It could change if Lord Steve makes some major changes to the iOS. It was great 3 years ago, its now showing it age compared to the competition.

Can Android sync to Outlook now?

jsconyers 09-21-2010 01:26 PM

I don't use Outlook, but I don't think it does it out of the box. I could be wrong.

There are workarounds...

I use Google Calendar sync now to keep the calendar on the Macs, PC and BB all together. Thanks

ArgonNJ 09-21-2010 02:18 PM

It will sync to Outlook if you are running Exchange. It will wirelessly sync folder, contacts and calendar to your exchange server. And really, why would you want to use Outlook if you weren't running exchange.

Outlook is the email client on my windows PCs. I use T-Bird on the Macs.

don't quote me on this, but for htc phones, htc has an app, htc sync and it works with vista for contacts with windows mail.

i dont use exchange and windows mail for me is my phone book.

i have not gone further since i dont use windows mail past that. and mail downloads off my isp.

Application - HTC Sync 3.0 for HTC Legend

I was just reading the notes for the HTC sync that comes with it. It says it syncs contact and calendar entries from Outlook 2000, 2003 and 2007.

OK. Thanks. Might do what I want it to do then!

Since you like Apple better. Then why did you buy the Aria ? You iPhone isnt so shiny now.Maybe it will be shinny again if you clear it up. I have cleared my BB 9700 with the help of a take apart video. Maybe it can help you.
