OS 4.2.2.180 coming out for 8320's

All,

Just got off the phone with t-mobile. The rep says they have a meeting tomorrow about OS 4.2.2.180 (platform 2.5.0.36) that is coming out either Friday or this Sunday. The rep is running it now on his 8320 and read off the about screen for me. Watch Unsupported Browser for the update.

According to the rep this will fix the certificate issue and a "howling sound" that can occur on UMA calls.

Cheers,

Isaac

Would be nice if it smoothed out some of the UMA issues...not that they're plaguing me.....Mine works fine at home but some other networks I've tried connecting to have issues.

Well, this supposed software will be the last attempt for me on this phone. I'm already on my 3rd Curve and having a ton of problems:

1. The wifi antenna is horrible. Its at 30% tx power when I'm 20-25 feet away.

2. Wifi handoff to another wifi AP results in 75% dropped calls.

3. I now get garbled speech in Edge and lose signal all the time. I can watch it going totally away, then coming back with 5 bars.

4. I'm missing calls that are going directly to voicemail. Very irritating.

5. UMA handoff seems to worK (to GSM) about 80% of the time. That's not good enough.

I REALLY want to like this phone, it is the BB I have been waiting for, but honestly, it's a piece of crap. The wifi is crazy slow, the UMA has tons of issues handing off to anything, the wireless antenna sucks and its isnt especially fast.

How can this happen? Things I loved about the 8700g somehow got worse on this model! Here's to hoping that this new software fixes most of these problems. if not, its either back to the 8700g or on to an iPhone.

I am looking forward to this update because everyone I talk to on UMA says it keeps going in and out.

I have heard that as well. Shouldn't be a problem with an idle 768k connection, and QOS giving it the highest priority...I'm beginning to think it's just a crappy phone.

Irony.... My just started working today...... Yesterday it was every 10 mins it would drop the uma connection

I hope it is much better that the .180 version I got last week. That was so bad I uninstalled it and put back .171

UMA is only as good as your internet connection

UMA is only as good as the phone that is using it, the software that it is running, AND the internet connection.

Speaking of that, do you know people that have broadband with less than 30kb/s upload? I'm on a call now, watching mine, and it hardly ever peaks above that.

I think the issue here is that the phone and the software are very new, and therefore, not as reliable as they could be. I don't think the issue is a broadband bottleneck.

Just a guess...

Ahhh same here! My 8700g is kicking the curve's ass in reception! I'm on my third curve. There are resturants I frequent that I've never had a reception problem with. I go in there with my curve and it goes straight to SOS! No searching for network or anything, its the weirdest thing! I'm not walking around with two phones, the curve and my old 8700g. The reception is MUCH better. I've always told everyone how happy I am with t-mobile and get reception everywhere, never had a dropped called for as long as I can remember. This curve is rediculous! What is the deal?

On a positive note. I've been using my 8320 non-stop over UMA on multiple wifi networks (home, office, friends houses, starbucks) and i have had flawless handoff, great reception - an overall amazing experience with the phone, bes service, browsing the web, etc etc.

I wouldn't trade this phone for anything.. well, except maybe pearl2 because i really liked the size of the buttons on the pearl - but prefer qwerty over suretype..but anyway.

i say 'great job tmo, i love it'

Althought I don't subscribe to the @home service, I actually have tested out the UMA on my phone. It actually works great and flawless to me. Calls over WIFI sound great, better than regular mobile connection like others have stated. I can actually tell when it switches over just by the quality. I'm impressed how amazing this works, its a shame I have no use for it.

But as for the normal cell reception of the device, I can't say much so far. Two curves and blah! On the third, so far it looks good, i'll prob know in a few days if it holds to the test.

BryanHarig 10-12-2007 05:58 AM

I havnt used the 8320 but both my 8300 and my 8310 are superior to my 8700g in reception.

Hopefully you just got units from a bad batch and it isnt a sign of issues with the 8320.

harveyjc_2001 10-12-2007 07:04 AM

One vote for me on the positive side of the ledger. UMA has been working seamlessly and does sound better than a normal call.

For those that are having problems, I would have three questions:

1. Did you back up from an old device?

2. Are you using the T-Mobile router?

3. Is your broadband speed greater than 768K?

My answers are no, yes, and yes respectively and I have not had any issues.

This thread has gotten off topic. The OP posted that .180 is coming out.

Do not turn this into another "Well mine does this" thread.

Thank you.
