Desktop Manager not seeing 4.5 OS for upgrade

I've downloaded the newest Desktop Manager software and at least 4 different versions of the new OS(thinking that was the problem), deleted the Vendor file and then plug in my BB to the Desktop Manager and it doesn't automatically find the new software for update. It says no software update for your device required but I'm running 4.2.

What can I do?

Did you INSTALL the phone OS update to your computer (by running the EXE file that you downloaded) BEFORE you deleted the vendor.xml file?

d_fisher 11-08-2008 06:39 PM

Did you download and install the OS for your specific model?

John Clark 11-08-2008 07:31 PM

...and delete the vendor.xml file again

Abbott: Who is on first!

Costello: I'm asking YOU who's on first.

Abbott: That's the man's name.

Costello: That's who's name?

Abbott: Yes.

I think that post would be more fitting here:

Yes, your even more right... That thread is really fitting... and almost high entertainment value when you read it again...
I just hope that someone will RTM in the FAQ's and have happy times with their updates...
Sometimes it is just like watching a train wreck in progress. I have been in the middle of this along with everyone else here at one point or another...

Hi roxygirl... and welcome to the forums...

Here is the FAQ on how to update your phone. As was previously posted, please always check for the vendor.xml if you update or run a newer OS update on your computer. Each time you run a version OS update and install it, the vendor.xml will be installed on your computer...

Are you on Vista or XP?

Hope this helps you out...

Good luck and let us know how your doing...

H.

That thread is one big PEBCAC error.

roxygirl1137 11-08-2008 08:33 PM

I'm on XP and I downloaded the right OS for my phone and carrier and deleted the Vendor file prior to trying to update.

I did run the exe before opening Desktop Manager.

Sorry about posting in the wrong area and I did search for some answers before asking but I didn't see anything in the time I had to search it.

Also all the steps in the FAQ I followed.

Try doing a search of vendor.xml on your PC to make sure there is not a hidden copy or 2 of it in another folder. I've seen this posted before.

zerog46 11-08-2008 08:36 PM

What OS are you running on your PC, XP or Vista.

That was my exact first diagnosis.

I have these three. I downloaded and installed several because it wouldn't work and I thought it may be the version.

8310-v4.5.0.44_P2.7.0.61

8310-v4.5.0.37_P2.7.0.55

8310-v4.5.0.55_P2.7.0.68

And I did a search for the vendor.xml file on my PC and none was found.

Do you have an 8300 or 8310?

You have to download the specific OS update and distinguish between the 8300 and 8310. The updates are different. Your showing us 8310 types but your profile says 8300? Which curve to you have...??

That was it! Well I think, I ended up downloading the 8300 OS and using my laptop and it worked.

Thanks!

Ok...

Great - Glad you got it figured out....
