Enabling MDS for user on BES...should it push the blackberry Internet client?

Just to qualify it, I'm not a BES admin so this may be a simple question.
We are using BES 4.x and Cingular 7290's with 4.x.

We have recently installed an application that allows use to push document content to BB users on your BES. The content can be grouped and controlled by us, and requires no action or pull from ther user. Its documents to be used for Crisis Management and reference.

The seutp includes a SQL server with a database of the applicaton users, content, etc. Also a .Net Intranet environment that holds the JAD files for installing the one-time handheld client piece that is required.

Unfortunately, the Cingular BB's come with only a WAP based browser called mMode whereas you need the Internet Browser on the BB's to recognize and download the JAD file. We were told that enabling MDS (Mobile Data Services?) on the BES for the users that we want have use this application is required and that it would push the Internet Explorer out to the handhelds. We did try this with a few clients and no luck in recieving the explorer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Enabling MDS pushes down the BlackBerry Browser to the handheld. If that's what you are looking for then it will work.

Yeah, we enabled MDS at the user and server level but it wasn't until we attached the handheld for a sync to the desktop manager when it finally came down.
Problem solved I guess.

Depends on BES and handheld versions. Both have to be 4.0 and there would be no need to cradle. If either version is below 4.0 you will need to jsut cradle the device.

Make sure the BlackBerry Mobile Data service is running in your services as well.

That seems to be the rule of thumb...thanks gang! (y)

Cradle - not sync (just improving the thumb) ;-)
