BlackBerry Synchronization

Hi,

I am trying to get my calendar all synchronized between my BlackBerry and computer.

I did have it working between my BlackBerry and Microsoft Outlook. I noticed that my events were all linked to Facebook by default, and so I changed my default CICAL service to my school e-mail address because I thought it might be better to trust my school's servers over Facebook ones privacy-wise, and diversify my portfolio instead of handing all information in my life over to one organization. But perhaps I am putting too much thought into this.

It is still convenient for my actual Facebook events I am invited to through Facebook to be synchronized with my BlackBerry / Microsoft Outlook for reminders &c.

Is there a way to allow Facebook events to synchronize with my BlackBerry without making them my default service for every event I make on my phone or computer, or am I just over-complicating things?

I also apparently have changed my contacts service, and it says this could result in duplicate contacts, which scares me, because I don't want my contacts messed up!

I have a screenshot, but it failed to upload even though I am using a supported format which is far below the maximum limit of 1 MB (a 300-kB PNG!)

Thanks,
Thomas

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

Check this out: KB17992-Using the Calendar application on a BlackBerry smartphone that supports multiple Calendars

"Note: As of BlackBerry Device Software 7.0 changing the default calendar for synchronizing is no longer required as all calendars on the BlackBerry smartphone will sync to the selected calendar in BlackBerry Desktop Software."

This is why you probably want a BlackBerry 9900/9930.

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

O.K., it sounds like the simplest solution to my calendar situation to keep everything as is except for buying a new BlackBerry.
So... I have now bought a BlackBerry Bold 9900, and I hope that my calendar issue will be solved so that I may set the default one to whichever e-mail address I like, Facebook events will still synchronize, and Outlook will start to synchronize with all calendars!

I still worry about my contacts issue however; I really don't want them messed up.
Any ideas? :?

Thanks,
Thomas

P.S. Picture attachments still fail to upload on this forum.

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

Does anyone have any idea about this problem?
I just want to get my synchronization working so that my phone will work and then I will be able to transfer everything over to my new Bold 9900, but until then, it's only good for a paperweight!
I am amazed at how difficult it is to get support for BlackBerries (I appreciate that everyone here is only helping out of the goodness of their hearts, but online forums usually aren't like this in my past experience!)

Anyway, I appreciate any helpful comments!

Thanks,
Thomas

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

This might be a feature available only on BB10 devices. BB10 is heavily reliant on cloud-based syncing and makes multiple calendars a breeze.

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

No, sorry!
My BlackBerry synchronization has been working perfectly before this issue, between Microsoft Outlook, and "Cloud Services" like Facebook and Hotmail.

Re: BlackBerry Synchronization

Is your only problem now a worry of duplicate contacts when you transfer to the new device? If so, in your shoes, I would backup the old device and copy your Outlook PST file to another folder or thumb drive or whatever. Then do the device switch or whatever and see what happens. You may be good. Or you may go back to square one and try something else. Or you may sync the new BlackBerry to Outlook and clean up what you have to clean up.
