BB 8700 Series
I saw the thread was closed and was wondering if anyone had info on the 8700 series. Or was that someone making it all up
We are a nextel customer (I guess Sprint now) and if new devices will be out in 3 weeks I don't want to order any current ones. Thanks Bill |
There was information going around about the 8700, however the thread became less than informative in the later stages. The consus seemed to be it would be coming out before next year. I for one can not confirm or deny that; I am simply restating what I saw posted.

Yes was hard to tell what was factual and what was not so I am with Jason on this one maybe before the end of the year.

I read an article where Jim Balsillie states they have a bunch of devices slated for the fall. I'll try to find it again...

In all honesty, I believe corey when it comes to certain information. He very rarely, if ever, disappoints on the truth and accuracy of information. No information about an 8700 series iDEN handheld has been even mentioned on this forum, though. However, as far as the CDMA, I would tend to think that it'd be next year for the 8700 series. I think that the other guy got his information mixed up and first reported the 8700 series CDMA device then backtracked (as corey so eloquently pointed out) and stated the 7130e would be released and not the 8700 CDMA. Nextel's next release will be the 7100i. I would say that, according to history, they will probably follow with the 8700 series sometime next year at the earliest.

very well put Jibi

Good summary Jibi! |
to be honest, i think corey's wording is perfectly adequate for some people (the intended audience, in most cases). i honestly got a chuckle out of the time he said something about a guy and a farmer and some sheep... or something along those lines. hehe.

yes i get quite a chuckle out of him sometimes as well I have had my battles with him as well lol

8700 "Electron"
I haven't had time to read all the other posts yet so forgive me if this is not new info.
Source: Andrew Lee of TD Newcrest 14 Sep. 2005 (excerpt) "We expect and EDGE-based BlackBerry 8700 "Electron" full keyboard smartphone using an Intel XScale processor, and CDMA 1xEV-DO-based and IDEN-based half=keyboard smartphones with SureType predictive text. RIM's product transition strategy is to have its next-generation smartphones commercially available shortly after being announced, so as to avoid stalling the channel. Last year the BB 7100g (t?) smartphone was announced on Sept. 08/04 and began shipping exclusively with T-Mobile in the US in early Oct/04. We suspect T-Mobile USA may have a similiar exclusive window with the Electron this fall, likely lasting 60 days, and note that the carrier plans to launch an EDGE service across its network by the end of Sept/05. In terms of Europe, our checks lead us to believe that Electron will launch towards the Nov/Dec/05 timeframe." |
that makes it sound like instead of an 8700 series, nextel is getting the 7100
|
lol I dont see nextel mentioned in that thread at all
|
Well to add fuel to the fire, on the T-Mo web site, they only list the 7100t, 7290(at a reduced price) and the SKII. I looks as itf they are making room for something in their "garage". It may mean nothing or it could mean something, we'll see.

I am willing to make a wager with anyone who thinks that TMo will get an 8700 first. I say Cingular gets the 8700 to market first. Anyone wanna bet?
I think it's funny that people are starting to agree with me. I just state the facts and don't put up with BS. It doesn't hurt that I will argue with just about anyone either. I will beat people into the truth if they provide false information. Some people are trying to show off, some people are just uneducated, and some people are just wrong. I will right the wrong and continue in my childish ways. |
Another article saying the Electron is coming to CDMA in addition to the "7100" device.
In a research note Tuesday, Paradigm Capital analyst Barry Richards said a number of online-trade publications reported the possibility of Research In Motion, known as RIM, introducing a new BlackBerry model, possibly known as the 8700, in the next week or two. The device, codenamed Electron, is expected to come to market in time for the Christmas selling season on the CDMA EV-DO and GSM EDGE platforms through Verizon Wirlesss (VRZ.XX) and Cingular Wireless ( CIW.XX) initially, Richards said. UBS Investment Research analyst Martin Cecchetto also mentioned the Electron in a research note Tuesday. RIM is expected to launch the CDMA version of its 7100 device, an iDEN version of the 7100 for Nextel's network, an EV-DO version of its 7200 and a new device codenamed Electron that runs on EDGE, he said. "We believe these new products should help accelerate channel replenishment," Cecchetto said. |

***I misunderstood the quoted post(see post below)*** ***Apologizes go out to corey@12mile*** Corey why do you say this type of stuff!!!! Be carefull you don't break your arm patting yourself on the back. Again this is the rumors section. I have personally talked to a T-Mobil rep that said there is a new BB in the pipeline. He had no specifics that he could mention, but said look for it in Q4. I then went to the T-MO site and reported what I saw. I made no mention of the 8700 coming to T-Mo what so ever. So you tell me than, am I wrong to report the rumor of a new BB and my own observation(s) in the appropiate section of this forum? The rumors section. |
